Roger trippin, seeing Burt Cooper on the dollar bill, telling Jane his true feelings. Great stuff 🙂

Very interesting episode. The tripping out was a pretty long session though. Missed part of Peggy's thing, going to have to rewatch in an hour.

Dare I say one of the best MM episodes... EVER?

Interesting to hear you say that. I LOVE the show too but on balance I thought it was the weakest episode of the season. I will have to rewatch it and see what I think the second time through. I did like seeing handjob Peggy and Roger on acid, but once we were stuck on the Don-and-Megan-go-to-Howard-Johnson storyline I thought it kind of went flat.

I thought the Don and Megan part was the strongest...

Interesting that you say it went flat with Don/Meagan. I think it was superb as Meagan clearly isn't a pushover like Betty and she sees straight through Don. We also see that she values her work, even though he doesn't seem to value his work right now.

On top of that, we see that Don doesn't value her "place" in the company and feels that he can treat her like of his previos flings and slink off on a getaway with no consequences.

Not to mention Don's spiral into panic and despair when Meagan goes missing -- the likes of which we haven't seen since Betty found out his "secret". And the "Here's Johnny" rage after his quick "relief" once he realized she was home and safe.

Rage door kick, furious, maniacal chase through the apartment; the groveling.

This was a great episode all around IMHO.

Yup, this is by far one of the best ever.

Storming off in an argument, and returning to find your SO... completely gone. Then the chase around the apartment upon his return. And Meagan's declamation: "Every time we argue like this, you lose me a little bit more".

We've all been there, and Don's reaction throughout is sick with fear and self-loathing. As usual, brilliantly executed by Hamm.

I've never done lsd... but having observed people on it while sober myself, it felt pretty accurate.

Same here and nothing seemed too exaggerated except maybe the scene where Roger thinks he's watching the 1919 White Sox, did he stumble into a Field of Dreams or something? 😀

The LSD scene was pathetic. Just a bunch of cliches written by people who seemingly have never done LSD.

I'm pretty sure the scene wasn't attempting a scientific analysis of what it's like to be on LSD. It was a plot device and worked well in that regard.

Great episode. I loved Cooper laying the smack down on Don at the end.

All the hallucinations that Roger had were of the made up cliche movie/tv style, rather than real hallucinations. The russian choir when the bottle was open, the hair, Bert on the dollar, don in the mirror, seeing the world series in the bathroom. That shit happens in tv, but not in real life lsd trips.

It's called symbolism and subtext. If it was just random pointless bullshit hallucination that you get on a real acid trip it would be a waste of the viewer's time. Mad Men doesn't waste the viewer's time.

It's heavy handed symbolism using stupid cliches, which is something Mad Men usually avoids. Those were some of the worst scenes Mad Men has ever produced.

Geeez.... they were on drugs. Whatever. They did the standard hollywood/TV trip-out. Sorry that they didn't consult a genuine LSD addict.

The whole point of the scene (and plot device) was that they would loosen their inhibitions, reveal their true feelings for each other, and end the marriage. Who f*cking cares?

Agreed. I thought in terms of the substance of the LSD scene (the insight and lowering of inhibitions shown by Roger and Jane), it was an entirely reasonable portrayal. The hallucinations were mostly there for comic relief and I thought they were successful at that.

Do0d, all kinds of sheit happens on LSD trips -- completely different strokes for different folks, and completely different trips at diffferent times for the same person.

That said, how the hell could anyone "film" the inner journey of an acid trip? It's a near impossible task.

Anyway: Anachronism Alert! During the 1919 Black Sox scene, Roger says of the cars he sees, "There a Model T, another T, there's a Model A.

All Fords (lazy), but the Model A debuted in 1928, almost 10 years after that game.

Obviously, the writers were trippin'! 😛

I thought it was rather weak compared to the last few episodes.

Awesome episode, had a little bit of everything. Roger getting a BJ at the end was just icing on the cake haha. That explained the "explicit material" warning for the last few scenes.

"One day your little girl will grow up to spread her legs and fly away"

😀

That was great, and Roger's cackle made it golden. Did you notice who played Megan's mother?
