I would like the following lines at the supermarket:
1.) 10 items or less, no checks
2.) WIC coupons/food stamps only (if you are using these, you must goto this lane)
3.) Credit/Debit lines
4.) Cash/credit/debit/check lines

The new Foodnazi stores all have this policy. Finally some order in the checkout lines!

*All* Kroger stores have those? For some reason I don't recall seeing them. I've never been to Giant Eagle, either. <shrug>

The Krogers that I've been to do. Since we're both in Columbus ? I'm surprised you haven't seen the same kind.

I hate that. They shouldn't force you to put it in the fvcking bagging area.

Just scan and go like at grocery stores. Bag it later.

Other than the bagging thing, I've got self-checkout nailed at Home Depot. Last time i tried to buy 2 light bulbs and it counted 1 and thought my second scan was trying to remove the first light bulb. Great. Took me maybe 30 seconds to sort through that, but I fixed it.

What I find ironic is that stupid people come from places with poor education.

Case in point: El Cerrito, CA and their Home Depot vs. Cupertino, CA and their Home Depot. The people who enter the Cupertino store are like Asians and whites. The one in El Cerrito ... Ok, and which store always has the backup at the self-checkout line? The El Cerrito one. Hmm.

Similarly, you have idiots who pay in cash and check and who knows what form of payment people try at Safeway, and the lines always WRAP AROUND the whole damn store.

I may have given you a little higher score, but with 99% of the machines working like crap I can't do it.

Personally I love self checkout, that way I don't have to watch 17 year olds whine about how their life sucks, or give other complaints.

The self checkouts at walmart work great for me, although some days they have problems with debit cards. Also, some of the self checkouts are designed for express, and some aren't...
The ones at HEB (grocery store in texas for those that don't know) royally suck in my experience... they're slow and unresponsive, and I generally avoid them

And I was surprised to see self checkout at the home depot... it's fast and snappy (similar system to walmart I noticed), but it's flawed in the way that it REQUIRES you to put everything in the bagging area, even for oversized stuff (which is typical at home depot). At least the walmart's system allows you to skip bagging.

I'm going to have to go to the Kroger nearest me tomorrow, just to see. :p

Some people still have not figured out the ATM

Ahahah that brings back memories. This past April I was out with a friend at school. He's 24 and from a very small town. As we were going from one bar to another he stopped to use the ATM. It took him a really long time and I asked him why. His answer? It was his first time!! :Q

People, the self-checkout was designed for two purposes: speed and simplicity. It's really not that hard to operate. In fact, you can checkout in easy steps.

1) Scan items by the bar code.
2) Place scanned items in a bag in the Bagging Area.
3) Insert cash, or select alternate payment method from the colored and labeled pictures.
4) Take items and leave.

If you can't figure it out, then go to a regular line and don't hold up everyone else.

Also, it's a form of EXPRESS checkout, so don't bring your 50 fscking items.

Agreed. If these people can't manage to figure the self-checkout out, just remember that these are the same people who are driving when you are out on the road.

That's the really scary part.
