Just saved $87 bucks a month and stayed with the same provider. Am pretty happy. Like a lot of us, we just have two internet provider choices here.
Was stuck in another year of a 2 year Internet/TV FIOS contract that I re-upped on last January to keep a certain price point. It was a mistake but I ran the numbers and it made more sense to switch to XFinity 200/5 Internet only with a 1.2TB data cap (no need for TV anymore), eat the $215 Verizon cancellation fee, and still end up almost $400 saved for the year. Called Verizon to explain this to their cancellation department, but they offered me absolutely terrible options. So I did call and set up an installation date with XFinity for 1/4/21. This time I called back Verizon with an actual cancellation date in hand and this rep was much quicker to roll over. Could have been just the different personality of this other rep as well.
Ended up going from Gigabit FIOS internet with a Choice TV package at $127 a month (scheduled to go up to $137 a month due to an expiring promo), to a 300/300 FIOS unlimited internet only plan at $55 a month with auto-pay on. Both prices include their latest router rental.
It just depends on the rep you get, how serious you sound, and maybe just tell them you have a cancellation date, the day after your new provider is scheduled to come install new service. That might help.
