Amazon free shipping changed on October 21, 2013

Add at least $35 of eligible products to your Shopping Cart. Note: Eligible items will display "FREE Shipping" next to their price. Product Bundles and items sold separately qualify independently for the $35 minimum purchase.

Changes to Amazon Free Shipping

These changes relate specifically to FREE Super Saver Shipping. All other services remain unchanged.

Amazon's minimum order size for free shipping has changed to $35. This is the first time in more than a decade that Amazon has altered the minimum order for free shipping in the US. During that time, we have expanded free shipping selection by millions of items across all 40 product categories. Look for "FREE Shipping" on product pages to discover eligible items.

Millions of Amazon customers have already made the choice of faster shipping by becoming Amazon Prime members. Prime includes unlimited Free Two-Day Shipping, with no minimum order size, on more than 15 million items, as well as unlimited streaming of over 41,000 movies and TV episodes through Prime Instant Video and access to over 350,000 books to borrow through the Kindle Owners' Lending Library. The service is so popular that more than a year ago we began shipping more items with Prime than with free shipping. Click here to start a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime.

Whichever shipping speed you choose, thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.

Damnit. I had an item in my cart that was $18. I was just waiting to order it until I could think of something else I needed for $7 so I could get the free shipping. Now I have to find something for another $20.

Considering the deals that Amazon has, the customer service, the low cost of Prime and benefits it has, this really is not a huge deal. Amazon is and will remain one of the best retailers for the foreseeable future.

This looks like an attempt to push Prime memberships. IMO the benefits of Prime far out weigh the initial upfront cost.

That Prime is if one purchase frequently off of Amazon.

I will make 4-5 purchases through the year, each in the amount to allow the Free shipping option. The timing of purchase (planning) does not require expedited shipping.

Prime seems to be more for the impulse or last minute shopper.

Ever since Amazon started collecting sales tax in Texas it's become much less of a bargain for me. I can find better deals at Fry's most of the time and I can have the item in-hand today. Their edge is slipping.

Prime would make me want to use amazon more because it's a subscription making you feel obligated. I put less than $200/mo. on my personal credit card every month (and don't carry cash) - that's how much I am capable of saving money.

Right now I just keep a wish list and if my items total 25 I put it through - now 35 - it sucks but I'm not doing Prime for $80/yr. If it were as good as Netflix then I can see a good reason.

It should be the other way around - they should be offering more incentives for us to shop there (and I do almost exclusively shop there). Their reward card is laughable. Prime 2-day shipping is still not being able to pick it up at the store the same day (while still paying taxes), and we have the privilege of paying extra for that?

Newegg [at least used to] ship door to door in 3 days without spending anything extra. What happened to good service? We've been conditioned by Amazon's slow services. 4 days prepping a shipment. Of course people are going to want to pay for Prime. Good work Amazon!

Lol, I spend more than that on my gas card every month...and it's an Amazon card I'm using just for the points

gas goes onto our joint credit card. I'm talking about personal toy or lunch spending. As for the card, it's not better than cashback that you can use anywhere or even convert to cc bill credit. With them doing so well, I'm just surprised they're not offering better.

I had Prime but I let it expire since I didn't use the streaming videos AND they cut my storage on their music site. The music thing was what really ground my gears.

I mean for $80 and I'm averaging about $20/month in shipping from them right now, I should do it again. I'm just still butt hurt about the music thing.

What i've noticed as of late, they will use GROUND shipping if they can. In the past they used 2day on every item imaginable.

Another cost saving measure.

PS - Prime member 2+yrs and counting.

I hear you, it hurts when the companies scale back. I left Netflix and never went back.
Amazon 2 day shipping itself so addictive that its worth the 80 dollars...

Once you're in a tax area prime starts to suck. The video offerings are seriously lacking and could care less about the free book borrow.
