PSA: Amazon Changes their Super Saver Shipping Requirement to $35

gas goes onto our joint credit card. I'm talking about personal toy or lunch spending. As for the card, it's not better than cashback that you can use everywhere or even convert to cc bill credit. With them doing so well, I'm just surprised they're not offering better.

Okay that makes sense....thought you were saying you only spent $200 every month (besides rent + car note). Was going to ask if you lived off Ramen 😛.

Good ol Capitalism is what I say. The better they do, the more money they'll want.

A few months ago I went and read through the details on prime, while logged in to my amazon acct.

After that, all of my 'free super saver' shipping orders have taken a full 10+ days to arrive. They sit in 'preparing for shipping' for at least 5 days.

Meanwhile the fiancee's orders all ship out immediately.

I hate to be all conspiracy theorist but I really wonder if amazon does this to help push people towards joining prime.

Newegg did this to me last month...I ordered something with the Eggsaver shipping and they sat on it for a week...The estimated delivery time was 7-10 business days and they waited until the 8th day and sent it out with Fedex 2 day shipping...First time and last time I will use this shipping. (not blaming Newegg as it was displayed up front but I didn't think they would wait until the 8th day either)...

I've been on Prime so long. I used my free year for a student email, and my 4 years of half price.

If you guys worry about the cost of Prime, split the cost with a few buddies. If you can find 8 people that is $10 a year for free 2 day shipping on nearly every item.

I don't think prime members are entirely exempt from price hikes either. I remember buying entertainment centers with next day shipping for $3.99. Seems like anything heavier than a toaster is $7.99 now.

I really don't believe the stuff about amazon pushing you toward prime by holding your orders until the last possible second though. I see it as more like the Disney World customers who don't have VIP passes. It takes forever for you to get on the ride when VIP members keep getting lead to the front of the line. I figure its the same with prime vs. non prime members.

That's it, Amazon is so over now. Jumped the shark. Better years ago. Sucks now. Slap in the face of the customer. Bullshit. Closing my account. Leaving.

every time I see you post, I think of this:

Prime pays for itself if you buy from amazon enough.

We've been making the migration this year to trying to buy everything online. Our local Stop & Shop grocery store has a delivery service called Peapod for doing fresh stuff like milk, eggs, and veggies; delivery is between $7 and $10, but you don't end up buying a bunch of extra crap because you're not tempted when you're not in the store

Amazon is amazing because you can order diapers, formula, toilet paper, paper towels, Cheerios, canned tuna, bath towels, Windex, detergents, all sorts of stuff and have it shipped free with Prime. All of my local Walmarts have become horrible places to visit (despite the stigma, they were actually nice before, but the last few years, well - they've really gone downhill).

It makes it so much easier when you have young children too - shopping with kids is harder because you have to go through the whole ritual with the carseat and stuff, temper tantrums, etc. vs. just ordering what you want online and having it show up. If you're smart about it and keep a basic inventory in-stock, you never run out of stuff like TP or ketchup either. We haven't made the transition to 100%, not sure if that could ever happen realistically, but it's been such a huge convenience in our lives that Prime is definitely worth the $80/year or whatever they charge. Plus streaming movies!

Now that they are taking over manufacturer's warehouses, prices will be more competitive... no time to bail on Amazon, its time to get in and stay in.

I've been using them over Newegg a lot lately for computer parts, sometimes their prices are like $10 cheaper plus free shipping, and it's only "1-Click" away to checkout...

Strangely, I use Newegg to find the exact model of a computer part I want, and then search for it on Amazon. Newegg has such a better search and filter method.

That Prime is if one purchase frequently off of Amazon.

I will make 4-5 purchases through the year, each in the amount to allow the Free shipping option. The timing of purchase (planning) does not require expedited shipping.

Prime seems to be more for the impulse or last minute shopper.

Well, that's one way to look at it...impulse buying.

On the other hand, there are those of us that live "out in the sticks" who benefit from Prime's shipping speed and cost. And we comparison shop Amazon to other places, both online and b&m, to make our purchases.

For instance, doing a fair bit of maintenance to our '95 Volvo 940. Brakes (pads and rotors), plugs/wires, dist. cap, rotor, etc., etc.

Bought a set of Wagner Thermo-Quiet pads and two Raybestos Professional Grade rotors. Cost me $54 shipped for all that. (Caught the rotors on sale from Amazon for $9.45/ea shipped.) Couldn't match that anywhere, not at RockAuto---who's shipping costs are not exactly cheap---not Advance, not NAPA, nowhere.

Other stuff, we just weigh the cost from Amazon vs. driving 40 minutes to Anderson, SC (the closest place with "real" shopping) or further. Not everything on Amazon is the cheapest price.

Then the returns we've made to Amazon are handled very fast and the $$ is back within a few days of Amazon receiving the item. And Amazon pays for return shipping....well, as long as you pick the "right" reason for returning the item. 😉

Then the wife uses the streaming service all the time. Personally, I don't but she loves it.

Now, if you're smack dab in the middle of a big city/suburban area with tons of shopping around, sure, Amazon may not make a lot of sense. But for us, it pays for itself easily.

I do the same thing with RockAuto and Amazon. Find the exact part I want on RockAuto, search the part number on Amazon, then compare prices after shipping. Most times Amazon Prime comes up cheaper.

Then there's the returns factor. Returning stuff to places like RockAuto sucks royally. Amazon is vastly superior and they pay return shipping on top of that.

I still hate the add-on crap. Why the hell is an item an "add-on" if you're going to ship it separately from everything else anyways??

We use the Prime video (Roku) plus have a Kindle Fire and Kindle Touch. Our purchases on Amazon without Prime are in the realm of <10 per year. With Prime I think we hit ~80 last year plus some 50 digital orders.

Considering the deals that Amazon has, the customer service, the low cost of Prime and benefits it has, this really is not a huge deal. Amazon is and will remain one of the best retailers for the foreseeable future.

This looks like an attempt to push Prime memberships. IMO the benefits of Prime far out weigh the initial upfront cost.
Meh...

They will start collecting sales tax from CT starting November 1. My orders will drop drastically.

I had Prime but I let it expire since I didn't use the streaming videos AND they cut my storage on their music site. The music thing was what really ground my gears.

I mean for $80 and I'm averaging about $20/month in shipping from them right now, I should do it again. I'm just still butt hurt about the music thing.

How did they cut your music storage? All mp3s still don't count against your total I thought.

Hurr hurr hurr, this happened in the UK a few months ago.

Kind of sucks but plenty of the 3rd party sellers still offer free delivery on stuff, and beat amazon on prices (somehow!).
