It took nearly 10 years of "promises" before cable internet ever got to my old house. By that time I already using dsl for years.

anyhow from what I read of this ps3 thing. Its not truly a hack or mod like the wii or 360. Essentially the front keys were stolen from the factory. I highly doubt sony prepared themselves for something like that.

Oh and I wonder why the hell did they tag the name "jailbreak" to it. what are we breaking out of. at least with the ipod touch/iphone/ipad it was from apple's walled garden.

The term jailbreak make sense because so many people know what a jailbroken iphone is. It is just for name recognition.


Like I said before, link some legit sites and reviews over if this thing works or not and I'll think about buying it.

You'll have to take the word of numerous "reputable" websites. I use quotes because well I don't know them.

Clones are rumored to be out next week. this product doesn't expect to go out until the week after that.

so its at least 1-2 weeks before you see confirmation beyond those websites.

I actually don't see people pirating games at all here, because how many of them can iso bray files..

I expect a sudden influx of game renting once this method becomes mainstream.

I doubt there will be a large rise in renting services. The investment is too high for casual pirates and gamers who actually play that many games likely already subscribe. Pirates who copy games to avoid paying for them will more likely just download ISO's and store them on local HDD until needed, thus avoiding the BD-R investment. HDD storage is a lot cheaper than BD-R even without the burner cost.

The most popular option will be running off HDD. At least until BD-R drops to mainstream prices.
 
i know some people (known online for 10+ years) who are pretty deep into the scene and they have indeed confirmed this is 100% legit.

they also believe but obviously can't confirm it, that there will be clones within about 2 weeks of the release of this chip.
 
Once this is released and clones come out (from what you guys have said, it is only the keys that really do anything and those shouldn't be hard to obtain from one of these) maybe we'll get some reviews.

Personally, I already have a BR drive in my PC, so renting / ripping would be pretty easy.
 
You know I'm was thinking I hope this enables homebrew and someone works @ getting at porting dolphin over to the ps3.

with the release of the move, it would be nice to play wii games in HD. I think its gonna be awhile before nintendo release a wii HD.

i see a increase in 1tb+ hard drive purchases next week forward LOL
ssd's are still way to expensive as a storage medium compared to mechanical drives when
you can get 2tb drives under 100 now

There are clones. And some were rumored to be fake. So I'd wait or buy the original.
 
Blockbuster just added games to their online programs, which means you can now rent as many games as you want per month for around $11...this includes BR movies as well, with 5 in-store exchanges per month. That's a lot of movies & games. I agree that the online rentals would increase dramatically.

One thing I'd like to see after this is confirmed to be legit, is being able to see the PS3 HDD as a network drive on a MS OS. Now that would be one sick hack. I would actually think that would be easier to do than this jailbreak.

Load over network? How would that be easier.. You would need an intrusive program that POINTS the loader across the network.. Sony could then potentially epic ban your ass. OFF line for safety..

Load over my network, not the Sony network. Sony wouldn't need to know what I was doing within my network. I said I would think it would be easier, but not with certainty. Hacking the PS3 is not my area of expertise.
 
And lets hope someone reviews. I don't have either of the devices and I am not spending $40 on ebay to try. Maybe someone else will.
 
I was able to exploit my PS3 using a TI-84 Plus calculator. There are also ports to the Palm Pre, Nokia N900, HTC Desire and more. Work is being done on PSP and iPhone ports as well. Basically if a device has USB out and can deliver the payload, you can likely exploit with it.

DO NOT update to 3.42 as it kills the hack.
 
i'm waiting for an ipod touch version to come out heh, i hear it is in the works.

this is crazy how many devices work.
 
So what's able to be done with it thus far? Any homebrew (media center!?!??) stuff in the works? play backups? off disk? off HDD?
