PS2 or Xbox?

Ok I have owned them both before. Only real reason for me to buy a PS2 is DMC2(in Jan) and GTA:VC(now). I have played halfway through GTA:VC on a friends PS2 so I know how it is. It rocks. But it is suppost to be released on the PC which will prob be in about 4 months.

Anyway on Xbox I am wanting to play Splinter Cell(now) and Halo 2(when it comes). Oh yeah not to mention Xbox comes with 2 free games. If I buy at Wal-Mart I can get 3.

Havent check for what else is coming.

opinions?

don't have suround sound. Just a set of Logitech Z560's which might work good(better than TV sound anyway). I am just wanting some opinions. Not wanting to start a console war or something. Does anyway know of some other AAA games thats due on them. Also anyone play and like Splinter Cell?

how many times has this same thread been done....

the answer is xbox, ps2 is a old piece of junk on its way out.

I have to disagree that the PS2 is on it's way out. They have penetrated the market way too much for the console or the games to go anywhere.

Console-specific titles will allow the PS2 to survive. That and the controller.

If I could have only one console (I have all three), I would say I would want the PS2. Mostly because of the GTA3/GT3 and the fact that I can get all of the other games I want to play on it (Tony Hawk, Final Fantasy, NHL/Madden series, etc).

xbox live with mech assult and all the upcoming games already rapes ps2.

Here is the answer I got from a good friend, who is the biggest video-game geek I know:

My question:
BR:

If you were to buy a console right now, which one would you get? I think I am finally tired of constantly upgrading my PC at a cost of hundreds per year to avoid paying $200 for a console, so I am toying with taking advantage of one of the good holiday deals.

I know PS2 generally has more good titles, but Xbox is cheaper, has far more headroom for future games, and seems like it is coming into its own in terms of having good games (Rallisport, Splinter Cell, MechAssault, Halo 1 and 2, Doom III). I do like the idea of 5.1 surround audio as well, since I have a decent little 5.1 home theater. I would really like to play Vice City, but I want to choose a console wisely - how big a difference do you see in overall quality of games? Which is the better overall choice in your opinion? I like driving games and nearly anything violent!

Thanks for your input, homes! Best to KK.

His answer:

I hacked my xbox with a mod chip and a big hard drive, so now its the only machine I use. The only games I may get for my other two systems (i'm such a friggin geek to own all three) are vice city and metroid. Everything else these days is cross platform and the xbox version is usually the best. If you like killing games, I think xbox is the right one.

Of course, still. No vice city. 🙂

I want an Xbox but I can't get into the controll, both Orignal and S. The button placement just doesn't work for me. That and I only play Sports/Racing/Fighting games, all of which are mostly cross-platform so my PS2 is fine. Ultimately, you have to decide what games you want to play and decide on that factor. Specs mean nothing if you don't enjoy playing it...

The real answer is both, then you're covered and get to play all the good games that come out...
except for that one single good GC game Nintendo releases annually.

I had both, but recently sold my PS2 for a GameCube (for the kids, with the sole exception of Resident Evil:Zero.) I just found that ever since I got the Xbox, I rarely played my PS2. I liked GTA3, but I much preferred the PC version (and I'm sure VC will be the same.) Other than that, there were no PS2 exclusive's that interested me.

That being said, I prefer the Xbox. With the acquisition of Xbox Live, I'm not sure what PC games will get ANY of my attention.

AAA titles...

Splinter Cell is awesome. Game of the Year, imho.
NFL2k3, especially online.
MechAssault is another one that's equally good as single player or online.

I just picked up Ghost Recon today and will be picking up NHL2k3 this weekend (as soon as someone locally has it in stock :frown: )... I'm very excited about playing those online.

Halo 2 is a no-brainer.

But you MUST somehow get surround sound hooked up. It really makes the games significantly more immersive.

I'm going to have to throw my vote in for xbox as well. I mulled over purchasing either the xbox or ps2 for quite awhile now, and for the reasons already listed I've finally rested on the xbox. Hopefully you (and I) will be happy with it.

I agree, although I don't know why anyone would get an x-box... aside from halo, it has the worst games ever. And halo was only a clutch move by MS when they bought out bungie... They stole our PC gaming goodness! And unlike those cool guys at Rockstar, they have absolutely no intention as far as I know of letting us PC gamers have a bite of Halo. That sucks!
MS doesn't have a clue what they are doing with the XBOX... they're like prez Bush and this country! Ah well, both will be done after 4 years, and ready for the next iteration of their respective succeeders! Heh heh.

You could be considered legally retarded.

I own Splinter Cell, it fvckin' rocks. I'd rank it as one of the top 3 video games I've ever played, any platform. I agree with Wingznut, it is Game of the Year material.

Sorry don't come to the off topic forums much so I didnt see any Xbox or PS2 posts. Well I will be going with a Xbox since Vice City is coming to PC and thats the only real reason that I want a PS2.

Does anyone have any idea how long MS will carry on the 2/3 free games deal with their system?

Thanks all.
