Problems with my x1800XT (Prev. "Are these decent 3DMark scores?")

Yeah, so I switched out my x1800XT for another one and saw an insignificant 10pt increase. This is a newly built system with a brand new hard drive, windows copy, drivers, etc. I'm actually going to return this card for a x1800XL as I'm able to get a new one for $239 through work. We'll see how downgrading my card affects my 3DMark05 scores. I'm thinking that the bottleneck of my system is my crappy Intel motherboard.

Compare the A64 score to the P4 score. I know these results are just averages, and could have a bunch of statistical oversights, but looks like the average score for a x1800xt with a p4 @ 3.4 is around 7200. Almost 2000 points lower than on an A64

why not oc cpu ? 830 can probably do 3.6-3.8ghz, on water probably even 4+ ghz

correct me if im wrong, but I thought Intel motherboards (manufactured by Intel) could not be used to overclock.

Cannot OC the Intel mobos. Also be ready to deal with ALOT of heat if you are gonna OC that monster.

i have 4600x2 at 2860mhz with 2 gig ddr500 ocz gold 3,4,4,8 i scoring 17000 even in 03 and 8900-9000 05 with the 5.12 driver they are starting to utilize the dua lcores with the 5.12 drivers,i see people in the 9000-10000 range with 05asked how never got a strait anser but one guy said memory layencies have a good bit to do with marks 3dmark likes tight timmings 2,2,2,5 compared to my 3,4,4,8,

I'm about to run 3DMark '05 with my X1800XT. I've seen a person with an AMD 3800+, 1GB Corsair and a X1800XT get 9080. Not sure if he's OC'ed but I'm going to say 8k- is a low score for a X1800XT.

Have you tried putting you image quality slider to High Performance? Also make sure all unnecessary background apps are shut down (virus scan, firewall, etc.).

AMD opteron 165 oc to 2.6gihz
GEIL ONE W BH running 240 @ 2-2-2-5

I have two 7800gtx's that hit 14100, but I am gunna sell them and hang onto a single card solution for a bit.

9328 here with rig in sig, X1800XT @ 689/797

I think this adds more credibiltiy to the CPU argument. Red's got a 4400+ and I have a 4200+. Basically, he picked 150+ more points with a 512k more cache on his cpu.

more support for the cpu theory... Dave's got an A64 3700+@2.6ghz, and he scores a 10003.

Higher score than me with a card @ stock. Plus, my GTX'es (KO ed) never broke 10k in 3DMark05.
