BABY JESUS WEEPS

Haha.

1) The reason I went with the Pentium D was two fold. First, was the $215 deal I mentioned earlier. Second, was this article.

2) I haven't checked the CPU temps but I will. My temps should be okay, I'm using a P180 with a Big Typhoon HSF.

Are you sure that you checked your ATi catalyst control settings? make sure they are not all "high". I even scored 6100+ w/ my x850xtagp and 3100+ sempron .....

I don't believe the ATI catalyst control center works with the x1800's. I know that with my system I would get an error every time it would try to start.

Doesn't sound right, I would reckon' to redownload the drivers and install again. See if that helps at all.

the deal i can understand the article i cannot. in BF2 it ses even a sempron 3400+ beats a pentium D 820. a sempron!!!! besides its not totally GPU limited, if you look at the pentium D 820 (only a tiny bit faster then your proc) hasnt hit the GPU limit (that seems to be around 200 fps where the D only gets 184)

but like stated before, in 1600 with 4x AA and 8x AF you wont notice a difference since that demands more of the GPU then CPU. even at 1280 x 1024 with 4x AA and 8x AF you shouldnt notice much difference. but anything in 1024 x 768 (even 3d mark) will definatly see bad performance compared to a AMD system.

with that said, it is a nice deal on the 830 + mobo. personally i'd sell it, get some profit, and buy a 939 mobo and proc. like a 3200+ or something and OC that mother. will probably save you money on the electricity bill as well.

These are the scores I got for my new gaming system, wasn't really sure if these were average given my system specs. This was my first time using 3DMark.

Scores:
'03 - 15817
'05 - 6907

System:
Pentium D 830
Ati x1800 XT
d945 Intel Mobo
2GB PQI DDR2533 CL3
That 05' score is WAAAAY LOW

I get 7569 with my 7800GT & Venice 3200+

:Q

venice v pent D

gameover

3dmark05 is GPU dependant...NOT CPU dependant....the proc makes no difference unless it is a complete bottleneck. mark05 is a GPU bench...

no that is completely erong. 3dmark is cpu independent until you reach higher scores. then it becomes cpu dependant. what did you think 03, 01 and 00 are cpu limited because they were designed to be? no. they were gpu limited until the gpus passed them by and they became cpu limited becasue the gpuswere able ot process info faster than the cpu could.

around the 6-7k mark, the benchmark can become cpu dependant. 6907 is actually pretty decent for that cpu.

I was just looking up the Futuremark ORB results and the 2 people with intel dualcores get 6488 on the 3ghz dualcore and 6243 on the 2.8ghz dualcore with x1800s. Switching over to 7800gtx results, 6721 at 3.2ghz, 6849 at 3.011ghz, 6887 at 3ghz, 6939 at 3.0ghz, 7135 at 3.36ghz and 7198 at 3.2ghz and 8434 at 3.2ghz. Everyone has 2gigs of ram except for 1 that has 1 gig and these are all the default settings.

it's not a card issue op, your cpu just sucks. sorry you spent so much on it.

7800GTX and only 7135 at 3.36? That sucks. I get 9324 on my X2 and 7800GTX. Of course my cpu is at 2750 and my 7800 is at 521core and 1414memory,

Make sure your BIOS version supports the CPU.

Make sure you didn't run the benchmarks with A-A or A-F.

I can score 7500+ in 3DMark05 with my X1800 XL, so something isn't right.

Read that. As they say in there, the CPU only prepares the data...like I already said, 3DMark05 is not very CPU dependant...its dependant on CPU as much as any computer needs a CPU to run. The CPU prepares the data...but go look on ORB...it took me a bit, but I found videocards clocked similar to mine, and started to compare proc speeds...between A64s, I found that an A64 proc clocked 2.8 scored the same as me, jhust like a 1.8 did....there WERE differences, but they were well within the error limits...go ahead, try it for your computer....just make sure you constrict it.

Yeah, if your CPU is an ancient P4 26 Ghz, you may have problems...but not when you've got anything at all near recent.

Just download throttlewatch, and then there would be an answer.

I get 7400 with a 7800GT/Venice 3500... only the videocard mildly OC'd though.
6900 for an X1800XT is ... WTF

Dude, who comes off as the fanboy when you post stuff like " I don't understand why people are buying the X1800 series at all." Give me a break. If you're going to make a statement like that at least try to back it up with some logical, well-thought out reasoning. The X1800XT is the 2nd fastest card out on the market right now and is ~$100-150 less than the 512MB 7800GTX so I can see plenty of reasons to buy it.

just coz i am witty and you are a chimp ( http://www.bushorchimp.com/ ) dosoent mean that people dont want an ATI card.
there are many reasons to buy a GTX and just as many to buy an XT. simple as that my climbing friend.

P.s. I saw your movie......... i dont think that flinging cars like that is very mature. come on now. stop it.

How about NO.

Battlefield 2
F.E.A.R.
COD2
Quake 4
Serious Sam 2

If you have CPU faster than P4 3.0, CPU speed between AMD and Intel is actually a lot closer than people on these forums believe since 90% of all new games are GPU limited. How so, because you dont buy a 7800GTX or X1800XT to play at 1024x768 where you actually expose the huge advantage of an A64 system. You will ideally (if not limited by monitor resolution) want to tax your videocard to the max, while having playability => at which point CPU speed will not have an effect.

You should benchmark some games (demos) to see if everything is in line.

OP, you should check if you have settings in ATI control panel set to Performance, no AA, no AF enabled.
