I'm sure bad stories exist, but I keep hearing better and better things about DTV. I am convinced they are aiming to become #1 in the market and they are willing to provide the quality assurance it takes to make that happen. I hope that continues and they stay that way.

In what market? They already are the larger satco, in terms of subscriber numbers. As far as HD is concerned, E* arguably has the better position right now, but D* has definitely been hyping themselves a lot in anticipation of their new orbital slots and bandwidth.

What kind of dumbass technician would install the Dish system and not check if it worked? My technician stayed and made sure i was getting the signal to my TV before i left.

Customer service has given me no help. The email address I have is for their escalation support (according to TheTony).

Honestly, I would of done the same thing as the manager. One thing you need to remember that there's nothing absolute, you're leaning towards the other extreme. You're asking the store to pricematch something an individual or small business sold in limited quantities. You need to be reasonable and considering the way you project yourself, most business will view you as a "devil customer." Businesses that no one wants to deal with because its more problematic than profitable to deal with.

They would rather have some other businesses deal with "devil customers" so other businesses deplete themselves out of competition. Did you get a chance to read the news of how Sprint send out emails disconnecting their service with over 5000 customers because Sprint felt they cannnot meet their unsatisfying demands. I just thought it was comical and an intelligent move.

I really hate it when people bump threads, but I want to make sure the non-weekend crowd gets a chance to read the ongoing saga.

Thanks for the bump, I was completely unaware of this until now. I am considering dropping Comcast due to its cost, but I'm not sure I want to go through all these hassles either.

No, you would have done the same thing as the manager.

The Silver box would have been a 34 switch or a 44 switch depending on. Currently the new Dish Pro Plus LNB has a 32 switch (3 in, 2 out) built in. That being said, what you should have is 2 dishes, one will have just 1 "eye" (LNB) and should be pointed at the 61.5 (at least for the east coast, I think the west coast is pointed at the 148 but I'm not sure on that), The other dish will have 2 "eyes" (Actually 2 LNBs combined into 1 with a built in multi-switch). There should be 1 cable running from the "single" dish to the "dual" dish and then 1 cable for each receiver run from the dual dish to the recievers (If it is DPPLUS the dual tuners only need 1 cable and a separator is used at the reciever). If dual-tuners are involved there will also be 1 cable running from that dual-tuner to the 2nd TV.

So, It sounds like your problem is one or more of the following (a) Single dish isn't pointed correctly or moved (b) switch built into the DPPLUS LNB is bad (c) Wrong LNB was used on 1 or both dishes (1 (The "Dual") should say "dp Plus" on it, the single should say "dish pro" (d) installer screwed up the cableing between the 2

That being said, the installer should have had to rewire/modify everything to put the new equipment in, and from the sounds of it he did. He also should have verified signal on all 3 satellites, and from the sounds of it he didn't.

WTT

P.S. I actually do install dish network (as well as DTV/Wildblue/Hughesnet + More) so everything should be fairly accurate, on the other hand, I am located in upstate, NY so I can't stop by and fix it for ya :( but LMK if you have any ???s and I'll do my best to answer them for ya.

Just out of curiosity do you do the dither adjustment when you install D* 5LNB dishes?

So you are saying I should have 2 dishes? Because I have only 1, but it looks like it has a triple LNB. (disclaimer: I'm at work, so I'm going on memory here)

I called Comcast and DirecTV several times each and they weren't flexible in the least in pricing. In fact, the people at DirecTV were actually kind of curt. I could have called a few more times and probably got a deal, but by then I no longer wanted either of them to have my business.

Called Dish twice, once to confirm pricing and once to order. Install was in three days. Free 500GB HD-DVR, free HD for 6 months, free HBO and Cinemax (can cancel any time) for 3 months, free install, 18 month committment. Install was thorough and service has been perfect. It's so nice having TV and HD and DVR all in one. befor we had

I think it might depends on who does the install. Was it a Dish Network van or a contractor who did the install?

No. Obviously if I walk away, then Dish Network loses. The "they" I'm talking about are the slackers (the customer service reps and the installer) who did a crappy job and thought they could get away with it. If I walk away from this, then they get away scott-free. I'm going to get my Dish Network service in spite of them, even if this problem is still unresolved a year or more from now. I'm bull-headed enough to make sure that I get what I want, in spite of all the losers.

My wife was home when the guy installed the system; from her description, I'm pretty sure it was a contractor. The people who have been calling us to set up appointments are from a company named something like "Suburban Solutions." While I agree that the contractor is the party that actually is to blame here, Dish Network is still ultimately responsible for their contractors and the quality of service they provide.
