I would have just called around and signed up with someone else. That's completely ridiculous.

But then in some small way they would win. I'm a very patient man, and I'm willing to play their game.
They "win" by losing a customer/money?!

No. Obviously if I walk away, then Dish Network loses. The "they" I'm talking about are the slackers (the customer service reps and the installer) who did a crappy job and thought they could get away with it. If I walk away from this, then they get away scott-free. I'm going to get my Dish Network service in spite of them, even if this problem is still unresolved a year or more from now. I'm bull-headed enough to make sure that I get what I want, in spite of all the losers.
Ahhh... Gotcha now.

That's a noble POV but a non-HDTV-havin' one. Best of luck though.

Called Dish twice, once to confirm pricing and once to order. Install was in three days. Free 500GB HD-DVR, free HD for 6 months, free HBO and Cinemax (can cancel any time) for 3 months, free install, 18 month committment. Install was thorough and service has been perfect. It's so nice having TV and HD and DVR all in one. befor we had

I think it might depends on who does the install. Was it a Dish Network van or a contractor who did the install?

My wife was home when the guy installed the system; from her description, I'm pretty sure it was a contractor. The people who have been calling us to set up appointments are from a company named something like "Suburban Solutions." While I agree that the contractor is the party that actually is to blame here, Dish Network is still ultimately responsible for their contractors and the quality of service they provide.

Suburban Services?

Suburban Services is an independent retailer of DISH Network and other satellite equipment

Suburban currently enjoys continued growth and expansion, while still maintaining the integrity and professionalism that allowed it to grow from such humble roots.

Entertainingly enough, Yes:D It isn't really all that necessary but it only takes another minute or two so why not.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

If you go to the check switch screen (Menu, 6, 1, 1, and then "check switch" if I remember right). Across the top it should tell you what type of LNB/Multiswitch it detected and below that it should show you which satellites you are receiving. Can you PM me or post both of those.

Thanks,

WTT

Are you sure you're getting all the HD channels you are supposed to get? I was getting a few HD channels with the initial botched setup, but most of the HD channels are hosted on a HD-dedicated satellite(s) that apparently require the 2nd dish.

I bought a $10 set of rabbit ears, which brings in the local HD channels just fine. They look better than the DN channels.

What dish(es) you use would depend on location and LoS. Some areas can see all neccesary orbital locations with a single dish - the Dish 1000. Others, especially those near the coasts and some with obsured LoS, would need 2 Dish 500 dishes.

The first dish that was installed was a Dish 1000. The new dish that was installed today is smaller. There is a probable reason for my particular setup - my house is surrounded by a lot of trees. The installation guys told my wife they were going to use the 2nd dish to target a satellite that was higher in the sky (i.e. over the trees)

I have one dish and am getting them all. Food Network, A&E, locals, HBO, Cinemax, ESPN, etc.

Did you get the black receiver? The ViP722? That thing is amazing. 55 hours of hi def or 350 hours of standard. And the PQ blows away my Series 2 Tivo. I also like how it navigates better than Tivo.....it's more of a techie menu than a grandma menu.

I'm using my 3 months of free HBO and Cinemax to grab tons of HD movies (King Kong, Pans Labyrinth, Star Wars Ep 1 and 2, etc). You can pay I think $30 or $40 to unlock the USB port and add a 1TB hard drive to it for practically unlimited storage.
