E2140 1.6Gh/1MB core 2 duo - $74
Celeron 430 1.8 - $59
Celeron 440 2.0 - $49

Even more impressive is that street prices for AMDs CPUs are lower than the official prices.

You can already get a X2 3600+ for $85, even though the official price is around $100.

A 65W Brisbane X2 3600+ and an AMD 690G HDMI motherboard...looks like the perfect, inexpensive HTPC solution.

looks like i'm finally going to be able to build an AMD rig after 4/22...
what would be better for an OC rig, a X2 3800+, or a X2 4800+?
EDIT: Or should I get an Opty 170?

$70 for an AMD X2 is friggin awesome.
$530 for an Intel Q6600 is hardly a steal but pretty awesome for someone who can get good use out of those 4 cores.

I like where we are headed...

BTW, what's a 'guaranteed' overclock for the 3600+ with a decent ~$100 motherboard?
Edit: Would I be right if I said 2.6-2.7GHz is easy and maybe 3GHz if you are really lucky?

These new prices are probably all socket AM2. For overclocking, may as well aim for a Brisbane core.

You're probably in the right ballpark, though I hate saying that anything in overclocking is "guaranteed."

I too am excited with the upcoming price drops.

More than that, looking at the price list it looks like soon all we'll be able to find in the low-end is 65nm parts, the low-end Winsors look like they'll be EOL.

isnt the Q6600 supposed to drop even furthur to 266$? when is that going to happen?

if so, then really no one should buy at the thigh end because the prices will be slashed come summer-time.

good new for me though, im a budget consumer

That price drop has no confirmed date; it's rumored that it will happen sometime in Q3 2007, which is anywhere in July/August/September 2007.

no, just need a cheap Tforce550 I got 2.8Ghz at stock vcore, someone got 3.1Ghz with Vcore boosted.

Newegg also has a combo deal on the DFI Infinity NF UltraII-M2. That board also sounded good.

sorry for bringing back up this old thread, but wow is all I can say.

I was originally gonna go for the E4300 and get a Gigabyte DS3 mobo when the price cut comes next month, but with the price for X2 3600+ brisbane going down to $69 msrp (which Im sure you will be able to find for 60ish on newegg/zipzoomfly), its got me thinking hard right now.

I tried buying at the thigh end once, but she arrested me...🙂

Seriously though, while both the AMD and Intel quad cores will be available, they won't clock nearly as high as their dual core brethren...and I seriously doubt anyone here (or most places) have apps that will take advantage of 4 cores (with the possible exception of 1 or 2 specially commisioned games...).
Best bang for the buck will be high clocked dual cores...

Q3 07 IIRC.

But there is also a Xeon 2.13GHz quad core coming that will be priced lower than the Q6600, and it will be 775 as well (like the current 775 single CPU Xeons).
Basically a lower clocked Core 2 Quad, rebadged as a Xeon, and priced lower than any other Intel quad core processors.

I may not need them, but I sure as heck could use them. If I could put together an 8-core system for under two grand I would be all over it. Games are already taking advantage, and when I am doing 3D rendering/animation, they would really come in handy.

Yeah this is crazy; I hope I don't end up regretting the 939 rig I just built. Oh well, I got good deals on my parts. But damn...well at least my rig will perform ~the same as these ones (X2 3800 @ 2.5GHz, 2GB RAM), so I don't have a lot to gain from it, which is consoling.

the Q6600 should be under 300 bucks by the end of year, so im gonna wait for that...but ill be damned if intel comes out with their 45nm by then.

I am going to say that these price drops are about as exciting as it gets in cpu remembrance for me. I remember the AMD K6's coming along and blowing away Intel. I thought that was cool!

Those exx20 Intel parts and any of the AMD 5xxx+ parts are like getting a portable Lawrence Livermore lab in your home when you think about it..a cpu for less than $200..crazy man just crazy!

Hell, the X2-3600+ was a steal at $100. $70 is nuts, in a good way.

A combo deal with that and the DFI NF UltraII-M2 is a good buy. That board has one of the highest HTT limits of any AM2 board that I've ever seen (440 mhz has been reported in at least one review). Pair it with good memory and you may actually beat a lot of the 2.7-2.8 ghz E6300s and E4300s out there.
