The biostar T550 is also getting rave reviews. A much less expensive brisbane with a much less expensive AM2 mobo than a 775 may just make me bite the bullet over a 4300.

We'll see

Another thing that makes AM2 tempting is that AM3 processors are suppose to work in AM2 boards. So hopefully that AM2 board will last a long time, at least long by computer standards.

Build a rig in April after the price drop, pick up a cheap C2D. Then upgrade it to a sweet C2Q in August when those drop to good prices.

yeah, that what I heard, is the AM3 chips will work in the AM2 motherboards, but AM2 chips won't work in AM3 motherboards. I just upgrade to an AM2 system back in novmember. If these AM3 chips will work in my motherboard, it's going to extend the life of my system.

and I seriously doubt anyone here (or most places) have apps that will take advantage of 4 cores

I run an app that requies 4 cpu's (or cores) as a minimum requirement :)

What is it?

Molecular design and modeling.

I design antibiotic molecules for a living.

Edit:
I just ordered one of these a couple of hours ago

Does anyone know when the price will drop on the Kentsfields?

I've really beefed up my rig for video editing, not to mention bought a real editing program (Vegas Movie Studio) and another two cores would really work wonders, but not at $835.00. .

Q6600 will be $530 in April 22nd, and $266 in Q3 2007.

:Q Wow, I like those numbers! Where'd you get this info? Source? I don't think I'll wait until Q3, but still $530 is $300 smackers cheaper.

Multiple, and I think it's been mentioned in multiple hardware review sites as of now, HKEPC, and Dailytech both have articles on this issue.

I have a feeling X2s street price will be crazy after the drop will be lower than list price.

I'd appreciate if someone could weigh in on the following question of very practical importance (to me personally, as well as for others who've been waiting for the upcoming price drop): with the official price drop on 04/22/2007, when will I actually be able to get a E4400 part in my hands, given that I'm not willing to pay much more than list price of $125?
Thanks!

You seem to be misunderstanding what these posted prices represent. These are not "list" prices, or "retail" prices. These are the quantity 1000 prices for large wholesalers.

And no one can tell you when the prices drops will show up on the street, or exactly what the street prices will be.

Well, I did not say that I expect to see $125 price @ newegg.com on 04/22. If you cared to read what I wrote, I'm looking for a price that is not "much more than the list price of $125" ($145 will satisfy me). Secondly, $125 price appears on quite a few lists (and that's more or less the only price shown in regards to E4400 and 04/22 date in those lists), therefore it's ok to call it a list price, IMHO. I'm fully aware that $125 is the Intel quoted price for large quantities. Thirdly, I'm not asking anyone to *tell* me anything, I'm soliciting information, e.g. from experiences with previous price cuts, regarding how quickly a particular price cut propagated into retail prices. Peace.

AMD back to pricing their stuff ridiculously cheap... awesome. I heard they've been having excellent yields on their 65nm (apparently it was much easier for them to transition from 90 >> 65 than intel), so probably this is why they can give their processors away :p

Ummm..No. AMD is losing money on each one of these they sell.
