@330 not really, it's 2.5x bw my deadlift last week without a belt or chalk was 525 or 2.44x my bw. I know % of bw isn't linear scaling and blah blah but really give me ~100lbs of fairly lean mass and I know I could pull 830+
not sure how branch won the bb competition.
When you put on that 100 lbs of weight, report back to us and see if you are pulling 830+... until then you stating you could is ignorant. You do realize this was the heaviest pull ever at this event?
For the record, a belt doesn't move the weight, nor does chalk.
I'm not going to load up on steroids to prove you wrong, I will however keep gaining at ~215 should be pulling 600+ by the end of the year, barring another(minor) back injury and I'll keep going from there. The heaviest pull at that event sure, but far from the heaviest deadlift http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5M13EBl_jF0 (200lbs heavier)
And chalk and the belt don't move the weight but the sure as hell help with grip and keeping his back straight, if they didn't help they wouldn't use them. I'll use them when I feel they're necessary which isn't yet, my grip is fine and I want to strengthen by lower back as much as possible and use belts for 1RM pulls as I go past 600lbs.
Keep on hatin...![]()

800+ pounds is a very impressive deadlift no matter what the bodyweight ratio is. Very few people can do it. Putting on 100+ pounds of lean mass is not exactly an easy feat, either. If you did manage to do that, perhaps you could pull 830 - but the fact is its extremely difficult to pull that one off, as well.
Not knocking it, it just isn't all that impressive to me. Is it heavy as fuck? yes. But I think I'll be close to it and be considerably lighter in the next few years, again barring injury. Steroids is what it would take for me to get that much mass and stay fairly lean in the 'short term' it would still take me over a year on several cycles to add that kind of mass.
It may be 300lbs more than my current max but it's also only ~150% of my current 1RM
Right I'm not saying it's not heavy but it just doesn't seem all that impressive to me, especially at his weight. Not many people can deadlift 500lbs either but I don't think that's impressive either. I'm sure there are many more pulling 500 than 800 but it also has to do with the number of people that can maintain 300+lbs of body weight and not be complete fat asses anyway, I think. There is no way I could put on 100lbs without a ton of 'help' and even then it would take a while...
Maybe I'm just not impressed easily![]()
No doubt that this guy deserves props for the training he's done to achieve this. However, and I realize everyone's goals are subjective, there's no way in hell I would want to look like an egg with limbs in order to pull heavy weights up from the ground.
Plus some people are just built for deadlifts. in any case if I could ever lift anything near 800lbs I would be pretty happy.
this guy is FAR from looking like an egg.
You must fall under that category of people that fear lifting heavy because you don't want to get "too big"....nor do you want to look like an "egg". pretty sure you have nothing to worry about looking like Brad Gillingham
wow.. tall guy has longer to pull.. impressive
Very impressive lift. Not only that, as has been said, people underestimate how difficult it is to even get to a bodyweight of 330#, let alone maintain it while remaining relatively lean. I don't do traditional deads very often, but I believe my personal best would be in the 2.4-2.5x bw range...and there's absolutely no way in hell, given how difficult that feels, that I'd expect to be able to pull 830+ even with the 150# this guy has on me.
