Predictions? 760ti faster than 670?

I am confused because the paper says it will give the 7870 a run for it's money... but the specs seem to indicate faster than a 670. Am I missing something?

No node shrink means that probably a mild clock bump and arch tweaks across the lineup, along with any performance gains from a larger die. Think GTX 480 to GTX 580, or 20% bump, unless dice grow. This implies GTX 470 vs GTX 560 Ti will repeat as GTX 670 vs GTX 760 Ti.

Blastingcap is likely spot on. Slight core clock increases over the gtx670 and probably the same or slightly lower TDP. It will destroy an hd7870, but it will also be priced significantly higher.

so once again we really arent making much progress. a 760ti will cost probably 300 bucks which the 670 should be by now anyway. I paid 230 for 660ti which is the best deal i have seen and came with AC 3. that means if i want a 760ti it will cost about 75% more for a 15-20% gain at most. the last 2 years have been a joke if looking for real performance increase and bang for buck. standard pricing sucks and most of the deals have been VERY short lived.

Thank Apple/Qualcomm for driving up 20nm wafer prices to the point where AMD and NV would rather stay on 28nm until 20nm wafer prices fall. Can you blame them? http://www.extremetech.com/computin...y-with-tsmc-claims-22nm-essentially-worthless http://www.tomshardware.com/news/A7-TSMC-20nm-Fab-14-Taiwan,21818.html http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/other/..._Is_Ahead_of_Its_Own_20nm_Roadmap_Report.html

well I dont really care who is to blame though. i am just saying from a consumers standpoint the standard pricing sucks right now.

My prediction, assuming the rumors are true, are efficiency gains with a 10-13% performance increase. That is in line with what happened to Fermi with the GTX 500 series, I believe - someone correct me if i'm slightly wrong. But that's a close figure. This is assuming the 780 uses an updated GK104. There are rumors that it may be GK110 for the 780. Still, even with GK104 and a 13-15% increase - that would be great for a card similarly priced to the GTX 680.

And then there's the Titan LE. I'm just not sure whether that will be the 780 or not (kinda doubt it), since it sounds like it will be fairly pricey with 5GB of VRAM. I can't see such a card selling for 500$. Here's hoping though.

If Titan is any indication, than GK114 (or whatever they call it), will likely see marked improvements in perf/w.

When looking at the refresh this time you might as well cut out GF100>GF110 since GF104 was negativity impacted by how badly the first run GF100 chips were.

GF104>GF114 benefited from this fact, had GF100 not been so leaky than the 470 wouldn't have been 607Mhz, and as a qui pro quo GF104 wouldn't have needed a cut and low clock speed.

The price wars of the HD4xxx vs GTX 2xx era are long over. Get used to it. Even if Intel got into the game, you know they wouldn't do anything to help with price/performance. If you don't like it, start your own performance GPU company.

If the 760ti is going to be faster than the 670 then why not compare to the 7950 since the prices would be comparable?

GTX 760 Ti is a clock bumped GTX 670 . so you can expect a max of 8 - 10% better performance assuming they clock the GTX 760 Ti to 1100 mhz boost. GTX 770 seems to be a clock bumped GTX 680 with 4 GB VRAM. so this would match the HD 7970 Ghz. the GTX 780 aka Titan LE based on GK110 chip is expected to sell for USD 550 - 600. so all GK110 based chips are going to sell for USD 500+. thats disappointing. AMD really screwed up this gen. if they had a refresh to Tahiti HD 7970 similar to what Bonaire HD 7790 is to Cape Verde HD 7770 we would have seen better pricing at the high end.

I think that is probably wishful thinking, unless Nvidia managed to someway improve the efficiency within the bandwidth constraints of a 256-bit bus. They could use faster memory (6400-6600mhz realistically), but I'd be mildly surprised if they do.

If Nvidia uses the same 6000mhz gddr5 vram, then I think we're looking at 3-5% increases for the gtx770 over gtx680 as well as gtx760ti over gtx670.

It almost feels like they are simply releasing the 670 and 680 at lower price points without actually lowering the actual price of the current cards..

IMO, nVidia won't release a "GTX-780" that isn't at least 10%-15% faster than the 7970GHz.

thats very easy to achieve. GTX 780 aka Titan LE will split the perf gap between Titan and HD7970 Ghz. Titan is on average 33 % faster than HD7970 Ghz. its easy for GTX 780 aka Titan LE to beat HD 7970 Ghz by 15 - 17%.

HD 7970 Ghz is faster on average than GTX 680. so the gap between GTX 780 and GTX 770 could be 20 - 25%. its more or less confirmed what Nvidia's GTX 700 product stack is .

GTX 780 aka Titan LE - GK110 chip with 2496 cuda cores at 900 mhz boost , 320 bit memory, 40 ROPs, 5 GB GDDR5. USD 550 - 600

GTX 770 - GK104 chip with 1536 cuda cores, 1150 - 1200 mhz boost, 256 bit memory, 32 ROPs, 4GB GDDR5. USD 400.

GTX 760 Ti - GK104 chip with 1344 cuda cores, 1100 mhz boost, 256 bit memory, 32 ROPS, 2 GB GDDR5. USD 300

I'd put more behind what you thought than BSN. ;)

Appreciate the effort for the reply, though.

I don't see 1100mhz boost on this. Since the stock 670 is due a 985 boost, I suspect 1000 or 1025 boost.

what is the point of a new generation if you can't beat the older gen cards by atleast 20%. the stock GTX 670 is 15% faster than GTX 660 Ti. GTX 670 OC cards boosted to 1084 Mhz . we are a year and half into the 28nm process. so Nvidia can easily boost to 1100 Mhz for GTX 760 Ti and beat GTX 660 Ti by 20 - 25%. similarly for a GTX 770 at 1150 - 1200 mhz compared to 980 mhz GTX 670.

And I'm sure your kvetching about it is going to bring down video card prices, amirite?
it was an asinine thing to say. really just stfu if you cant come up with anything better than telling someone to start their own gpu business. I guess I will get on that after I start my own oil company.

I get what you're saying, but from nVidia's perspective the whole point about the 700 series could be just to release something until Maxwell is ready. There are still quite a bit of people who don't have a 600 series card.

Fleecing your customers.

I expect a 10-15% increase across the board on the next gen nvidia cards. Same will apply to the radeons forthcoming. The real question will be do the new bosses at AMD that said they want to bring back the competition of old will push for a bigger die GCN 2.0 to compete with Titan.
