OH don't worry, MS will come out with a revised version 6months-1yr after release that will cost $100 less, come with a game and NOT have the kinect. You KNOW they will. This is a money grab...nothing more.

For $500? Hah...my friends who are not gamers won't even spend $200 on a console.

Depends on what else they have in their bag of tricks. If it ends up being an IPTV dvr and that starts taking off I can see it selling just for media functions to a lot of people.

oh cool, thankfully no one is forcing anyone to buy it at launch and they can wait it out (possibly indefinitely).

Well I plan on waiting, but not sure I'll last 6mo ;)

I never worry about what my friends play. They are all CoD or WoW bastards. In fact...of all my main friends only a few that play on PC, and none of the ones who actually do play PC play the same games I do and I get along just fine. Too many other people to play with on the internet to let your friends lack of information or mainstream-ness dictate what you do or get new friends.

I digress though, I'm not in high school or college, and I assume that makes a difference (no offense, it's just how the world works).
I get what you're saying. In fact, I am moving next year and I am sure I will meet new friends, and hopefully they will play more than COD.

It's the typical sales life of consoles in general. Sony will do the same thing. Difference is MS can't bank on Kinect if no one is making games for it. Since they had practically 0 to show for it at E3, I wouldn't get too excited just yet about all the 'amazing' ways it will be implemented. Since you are on MS's wang over (only) Killer Instinct, I don't expect you to understand that a required peripheral isn't really worth it for 1-2 games unless those games are absolutely outstanding.

If it's one thing I've never been able to stand it's peripherals that aren't supported. Pretty much all console makers are guilty of this over their lifetime. (Rob the Robot anyone?).

care to name the consoles that have removed physical hardware months/years down the road that were required for the console to function prior, and required for many games?

EDIT:

i see you updated your post. and if you read my posts you would see that i'm not excited about the kinect at all, primarily because they haven't shown me anything i can do with it that is revolutionary or doesn't mimmick what i can do more accurately with a controller.

but like someone else said, if you can simply do voice to text for messages over xbl with kinect, that would be a very nice and useful feature.

and yes, liking a game for xbox1 means i'm on their wang. people on this forum are just mad because others don't need to pick sides and can enjoy gaming being console agnostic.

Let's talk backwards compatibility? Or USB (PS2/PS3). Nintendo is notorious for it. There's a list somewhere...I'm not here to feed you the info.

Obviously if you are buying a revision console, it really doesn't matter if there are games out that use the prior item or not. It's been shown many times. Companies remove things from base systems all the time over the lifetime. Kinect, no matter how MS wants to spin it is not a necessity.

Having said that though, do I think it would be awesome if they really can incorporate it in a great way? Hell yes. I just am not expecting much outside of a 1 or 2 titles that revolve around dancing or sports and watching TV.

Clearly, your problem is you don't see Sony as the Lord and savior of gaming and MS as the evil, corrupt monster trying to destroy all your rights!

The robot from the NES was put in there to sell the system as a "toy" so that toy stores would carry it. They didn't want to carry a computer or anything like that after the video game crash.

neither of those feature that were removed caused any ps2 or ps3 games to not work on their respected consoles, so neither of those fall into the category i asked for.

nor do either of them cause the console to not function, because as of right now, the kinect has to just be plugged in for the console to even POST.

Honestly, I may consider the Xbone if that happens.

Assuming games like Killer Instinct don't get slated to come on PS4.

I personally think that most exclusive games will go this route. They will be exclusive to one console or the other at first, and then come out on the other 6 months or a year later.

Exception being the obvious ones like Halo, Forza on one side and God of War, Gran Turismo on the other

Making the need for both much less than it is this generation.

umm you should add killer instinct to your "exception" list there.

It's actually funny to me to see people take sides in a console war.

you did not need extra controllers to play wii sports you could take turns for a bunch of the mini games. actually extra controllers were in limited supply for months after the console was out too.

and $500 is double the price. had you told people they needed to buy 2 wii's to experience the new motion control (again, a new tech, x1 has none), i don't think as many people would have gotten one at all.

also, the wii is NOTHING like the x1 (or 360 for that matter) as far as a media center goes. i am pretty sure nintendo took out even the dvd movie functionality on later wii models.

The other thing is the XB1 comes with no game out of the box. Especially games that someone who isn't really a gamer in the same sense as I am would care about. The WIi came with something and looking at the software sales ratio to system sales for the Wii, it's pretty bad. Millions of Wii systems sold and I think I remember reading that half of all Wii hardware sales had zero software sales attached. I don't know if that was due to the pack in game or just the mindset of the casual ppl not wanting to buy $50+ games.

Actually, comes with KI free edition installed out of the box. Consoles haven't come with a game since like the SNES / Genesis days. I think people are used to not getting a game. Hell, Sony even stopped giving demo discs with the PS2, IIRC.

Did you bother to read the previous conversation I am responding to regarding the Wii and it's sales to casuals?

Casuals will play KI? No...KI isn't a full game out of the box either. Wii Sports was, the game was designed to be a collection of mini games using waggle controlls.

We are used to not getting a game. People who aren't gamers don't spend $50+ on games a lot as I said in my post. Try reading the thread and some of the information posted.

Wii Sports would like to have a word with you! The launch 360's came with some HD arcade game as well, I can't remember what it was called, it was a decent puzzle game I remember playing it.

And saying a F2P game that is available at launch coming already installed on system isn't exactly the same as getting an actual game for free.

Rob the Robot had a legit purpose. It was to convince retailers, still gun shy from the video game crash, that the NES was a toy, and not a computer or video game system.

Once the game industry revived and the NES was established, they canned it. It was never about Rob being a legit peripheral :awe:

My PS3 came with a full retail copy of Uncharted 3.

Wii Mario Kart edition.

Numerous other PS2/3/360 editions with pack ins.

My DS came with Zelda Phantom Hourglass.

I have a GameCube that came with a limited edition Metroid Prime game.

Etc.

They call them bundles now and they cost more than the bare base system, but the "Super Set" cost more than the "Core Set" too to get that common game and an extra controller.
