After two years of this stress added to the year of the campaign, I'm sort of tapped out. I've got news overload, and I'm just collecting mental samples.
A few days ago Iran's president Rouhani pronounced that the White House was "mentally disabled". [I've told a Trumpie here and there that the Iranians were at least rational while Rocket Man is criminally insane -- but let me continue.]
Trump responded by threatening Iran with "total obliteration".
Trump's own stress level is high. He's worried about the election, knowing that he has better odds even if impeached.
He's facing charges for obstruction of justice. He'll likely be charged with massive tax-fraud, because the facts are likely all there and they will come to light. He could be charged with money-laundering. He'll face charges for felony campaign finance violations. He might even face charges for rape.
If the investigations continue, there might be discovery of evidence and proof of conspiracy and collaboration with the Russians. He hasn't publicly denounced the Russians for their 2016 meddling, and he's totally silent on the matter of their possible interference in the 2020 election.
The only thing that troubles him more about being president in his self-constructed fantasy made-up reality, is the prospect of not being president and actually facing the Law. He's avoided a reckoning under criminal law much of his life, although he'd been charged with tax fraud and housing discrimination. In civil cases, he negotiates a settlement to end the litigation.
So you can say he really doesn't want to be president, but you can also say he needs to be president. It's probably true that being way out of his element, totally unprepared for the office in both experience and knowledge, he could secretly think he doesn't want to be president.
But the way he's going after Pelosi, the way he's targeting the opposition candidates, and the way he seems "more over the edge" about other things, suggests that he's afraid of losing his presidential status.
