back from pre-ordering... it was pretty uneventful. they just asked for my phone # and if I was eligible for a phone upgrade.

they said that our area should have 4G by September... I'm kinda surprised that NYC wasn't one of the first rollout areas, seeing as it's the biggest mobile phone market in the country (but maybe that's also why it wasn't)

That's probably why. DC wasn't on the initial rollout either, but it's apparently "unofficially" working in many areas around here. Maybe you'll catch a surprise on that.

I went ahead and pre-ordered today.

Currently I'm on AT&T. Even with the cost of the phone and the ETF I'll be saving a lot over the next 18 months(the remainder of my AT&T contract).

So I am going to test drive the Evo 4G on Sprint, and if I like it ditch AT&T. If I get good 4G reception where I will be daily for the next 2 years(well 4, but with yearly upgrades its kinda of moot), I'll add the mobile hot spot.

If I don't like it I'll do sprints 30 day guarantee and look at getting my first iphone and be out a shit ton more money(iphone off contract + $20 more per month).

I'm in one of the original 4G markets. We had Sprint 4G before they ever rolled out 3G. So heres to hoping 4G works well out here.

Hmm probably not quite right thread but I've been with Spring for 8 years now and I'm a premier member. My 12 month upgrade is July 2. Has anybody ever had any luck pushing it up slightly? I'd rather not wait for this phone.

I became a premier member when I picked up my Pre in late June 2009 (about two weeks after launch). I'm eligible for an upgrade on June 1, 2010 according to Sprint's website. It seems to be an 11 month cycle for premier members or they round down.

If you haven't done so already, you might want to check online and confirm that yours is actually July 2 and not some time in June.

Yep. Phone upgrade eligibility is not the same as your contract expiration. Check this site for yours: https://manage.sprintpcs.com/specialoffers/RebateWelcome.do

I just preordered at the Shack. I can't make up my mind on porting or getting a new
number, until I'm sure I want to keep it. I must say if Sprint's service is as good as the girl at the shack, I'm sold.

I am curious how this is going to work. I have 3 phones on SERO. When I called them years ago I somehow got someone who let me apply my corporate discount on top of it which technically they werent supposed to do. I wonder if I swap the plan over, will the discount end up staying on my account. I doubt it.... but I am unsure how close I can keep my cost.

I pay ~$85 for 3 phones all with the repair plan too. I get 23% corp discount currently. I am hoping to get mine at BB, Ive upgraded my phone previously with BB and SERO and I had no issue.

Just received a call from my local Best Buy to setup my appointment time and to give me the sales pitch for the accessories they are offering. Not sure if it is the same for all Best Buy locations but I was told they are giving away a free Plantronics bluetooth headset with the Evo 4G. I was also told that according to the local Sprint rep that Grand Rapids, MI is supposed to have 4G service this summer! mmmm

You will need to switch to an EPRP plan first. Single plans are $59.99 before discounts, which you may or may not get ;)

What's this thing about an "appointment"? Radio Shack told me I'd just need to show up on the 4th and get it.

As I was leaving I asked the guy if I came in the night before right before closing time if I can get it, he said no and gave me a wink. What does that mean?

Dude, you preordered - they have your money with a deposit. Cut through their bullshit and just pick up your phone. I'm sure any "appointment" to sell you accessories is entirely negotiable.

You can do the same thing at Best Buy. However having an appointment guarantees you can walk in and have a phone and a sales associate waiting. Much better than standing around the store waiting.

just back from picking up my Evo at Best Buy.

they were unable to activate my phone with my EPRP plan and had to switch me over to a regular retail plan :/ I'm going to wait a billing cycle and then apply my employee discount to my retail plan which should even it out with an EPRP, but I figured others may want to be aware.

I have a preorder but Sprint pushed back my 2 year upgrade date by a month (my previous date was June 1 but it was "a mistake"). I'm eligible for a 1 year upgrade discount. What happens if I go to Best Buy today? Will they not sell me the phone? Will they ask a higher price?

Have any of you guys been able to muscle your way past the upgrade eligibility, basically having it waived?

I tried to threaten to quit and go to verizon today, as my upgrade is up in Jan....I can't stand my pixi. Sprint wouldn't budge.

Picked up my two EVOs from best buy 2 1/2 hours ago. The whole process was very slow. Sprint was getting blasted by so many activations. Man this phone is awesome.

They aren't budging much. They will move it up 14 days without to much fighting, to get any more than that is going to be very difficult. They will let you cancel and pay the ETF before they move it up from January, six months is a bit much to ask.

Just got back from getting mine from Radio shack, and just learned that the phone isn't active. 611 won't even work!! Looking for a number for customer service now.

I am so not disappointed right now!

I was in Radio Shack for over an hour, though, because Sprint was getting absolutely hammered. They couldn't get into people's accounts on SNAP, it would just time out. They finally sign into mine and it says it can't be handled in SNAP, possibly because I'm a former SERO customer. So the poor guy has to get on the phone and do it, but he got through very quickly. All was good until it was realized that the phone wasn't activating, possibly b/c the Sprint rep fatfingered the ESN. He had to call back and it took a while to get through. Finally activated manually, and I was out the door.

Had to use my $20 credit there, but they had none of the official accessories. I ended up with some nice headphones instead.

Very, very cool phone though. Big fan of the screen size, responsiveness of the UI, and Android in general.
