So if I go to BB to buy it, they will sell it to me for $199, and Sprint will re-up my EPRP with a 2 year contract? And you are sure about this why?

Because Ive done it 3 times :) As recently as last month on my wife's line.

I preordered two EVOs at my local best buy. My appointment is set for 10:30 am on the 4th. I can't wait!

That's great. What about the extra $10/mo on the EPRP plan? Is that still an unknown?

All indications it will be, but, despite all the chatter on teh interwebs, its a guess at this point. No official word from Sprint.

I preordered mine at Radio Shack today. I figured it was the same price ($199, no rebate) as Best Buy, but RS throws in a $20 accessories credit too. I realize that gets me half a charger, and in fact I made that joke to the guy at the counter who laughed and agreed with me, but its better than nothing!

Oh I didn't realize RSH did the no rebate thing. That's great. I'm going to do this.

Do have an EPRP account? Are you in CA? If so, how much is the sales tax?

I'm on SERO. I will be moving to EPRP, unless my employer discount on the simply everything 450 makes that cheaper. I don't use 450 mins a month with 7pm nights, so the extra 50 mins won't hurt.

I'm in VA, my sales tax rate probably wouldn't help you :)

I also heard an internet rumor that 4G service is already unofficially up in DC and Northern VA - that would be incredible if it were true on 4 Jun.

Most Best Buys will not touch a SERO or EPRP plan. Around a year or so ago Sprint changed their poly on these and no one is supposed to mess with them except for over the internet or phone. Not even corporate stores will upgrade them. What happens is when Best Buy tries to get the rebate money Sprint will deny them. Also the $10 charge will apply to EPRP as well. Keep in mind that the basic EPRP plan doesn't qualify for Sprint Premier. If you go for the regular ED plan at $10 more a month you will be Premier which gets you a phone upgrade every 12 months plus some other piddly perks. (I believe 25% accessories at corporate stores is another one)

To the above poster that asked if the wifi is permanent, it's not. You can remove it at anytime. Same with the $10 charge. If you move to another phone that doesn't require it they will drop it.

So with sprint premier you can upgrade after 12 mos., but do you have to re-sign a new 2 yr contract? Or does it mean you can get 2 subsidised phones per 2yr cont?

Thats not been my experience. Ive upgraded 3 phones at BB, 2 in the last 12 mos. Never an issue. Many others have as well on sprintusers.com, slickdeals, and ppcgeeks.

Also the $10 charge will apply to EPRP as well.

There is no official word from Sprint. If there is, can you link it please? A rep on the other end of a phone isnt official word either. I called employee accounts (the ones who handle SERO/EPRP) last week on 3 seperate calls. 2 said no $10 fee, 1 said yes. But if you've seen something from Sprint corporate, link it please. I have 3 websites to post it to.

Also keep in mind that ANY call to a cell phone on EPRP is free. Including other networks. I know for myself, the majority of my calling is to other cell phones.

I should add that I'm out of contract on SERO, so to anyone selling me a phone, it won't matter. It's between me and Sprint to allow me to activate the phone, but I'm locked in by purchasing the phone no matter what.

I know they won't let me activate on SERO. I contacted them over chat (from their website) and they told me I could buy the phone, then call in to switch to EPRP when I'm ready to activate.

Good to know about the free cell to cell on EPRP. I didn't know that, I figured it was the same mobile to mobile (sprint only) that the regular plans got.

I'm just hoping they don't need the employee info when I go to change. I have a relative that works for Sprint, but it'd be a pain in the ass if I need to ask him for whatever they want to verify it.

If you're already on SERO, they won't ask you for anything to switch to EPRP.

That's what I did to activate my Hero.

Just to update, I was actually able to change it over their chat system today. The guy knew what SERO was, that EPRP wasn't the same as the regular Everything Plus, and how to change it over. He did it for me effective my next billing cycle, which is right about when I'm getting the Evo.

Good call on the free mobile to mobile to any cell. I didn't even bother pricing out the regular plan w/ my employee discount, since most of my minutes are to other cell phones anyway. I guess I won't get Sprint Premiere, but oh well.

Actually, according to the FAQ, EPRP is eligible for Premier I have a monthly recurring plan of $69.99 or more. With the $10 Evo add-on, I'll be spending that.

I just wanna know if I can order one for myself on an ED plan, and then re-sign with my father in a couple months on a family plan (with me keeping the evo of course) without any trouble/penalties >.>

Pretty sure you don't pay a penalty to change to a more expensive plan/add a line.

The ED plans also have the unlimited cell-to-cell minutes, it's not an EPRP-only thing.

Doh, thought it was. Oh well, 50 extra mins I suppose. Plus I found out my discount is only 15%. So it's basically a wash, other than the 50 mins.

I'll hold out hope that maybe EPRP won't pay the $10 surcharge, but I doubt it.

Question. I need a family plan. If I preorder, what must I do to make this happen?

Probably nothing, as long as you're already eligible for the $199 promo price (either out of contract, new customer, or new line of service). When I went to preorder, I wasn't even asked about a plan, but I'm upgrading. Onto an ineligible plan, at the time. I think they'll sell you the phone if Sprint deems you eligible, and then you pick the plan when you activate.

The phone itself requires an Everything Data plan, IIRC. There are family plans under that.

Look at Everything Data Family.

a google search turned up people successfully converting from SERO to EPRP using https://www.sprint.com/webconversionform/index.html ... submitted my conversion request and currently awaiting approval/denial.
the web link worked, though it ended up taking 3 days to do what I probably could have done with a 3 minute phone call (but once I submitted it, I didn't want to call and end up with 2 conversion requests in the works).

going to BB to pre-order my evo later today.

back from pre-ordering... it was pretty uneventful. they just asked for my phone # and if I was eligible for a phone upgrade.

they said that our area should have 4G by September... I'm kinda surprised that NYC wasn't one of the first rollout areas, seeing as it's the biggest mobile phone market in the country (but maybe that's also why it wasn't)
