Why should he? 109:8 says "“Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” . Sounds perfect to me. If someone quotes some other psalm , feel free to return with feigned outrage ;)

The hilarious part of course being that: It is what king davids enemies say of him. By using this quote... You are setting up Obama as the hero king of the bible... and the wingnuts as the bad guys in the bible story...

Spot on. If you take the full context of the psalms, it's absurd, but if you specifically reference psalm 109:8, it's a good choice.

How many pictures comparing Bush to a monkey we see and laugh at? That was fine because it was Bush... now people make fun of the new president and some start whining.

Per the monkey reference, you cannot call black people monkeys. Does this really need to be explained to you?

Per the psalm, it's not "making fun" of Obama, it's pretty clearly calling for the death and destruction of him, his family and friends.

No one is whining about the SNL skit with the Chinese president making fun of Obama because it managed to be funny without also praying for his assassination.

Your selective quoting is feigned truth, no matter how "perfect" it sounds to you.

You have committed a lie of omission, or the laziest, stupidest attempt at a rhetorical dodge on this forum in the last 30 minutes.

Which was it?

This is really sad and gives Christians and conservatives a bad name. If those people actually read their Bibles, they'd see that we're supposed to support and submit to our leaders. I might not agree with Obama, but I most certainly support him. I do pray for our leadership, but I pray for their well-being and for them to lead our country in the right direction. All this BS about praying that his days be few is totally contradictory to the Bible.

Well, the bible also says that women should shut the hell up in church and do what they're told, but bitches today will have none of it! Damned reinterpretationalists!

There is no such "selective" quoting, or "lie of omission". Psalm 109:8 is exactly what it says ...

Psalm 109:8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Then Psalm 109:9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

The new Obama Prayer is Psalm 109:8, not the entirety Psalm 109.

People often quote single passages from the Bible to fit a need, this is only different because it makes some people cry.

This is no different that the guy with the "Time to Water the Tree of Liberty" sign. Is he implying there's a tree that needs watering? Or is he implying that the blood of tyrants, figurative or literal, is required to secure that liberty? I mean, that part wasn't on the sign after all. He's probably just a gardener.

I'm curious what other single passages are frequently quoted from the bible that if read in context would cause a controversial reaction.

Ooh, ooh, ooh, pick me, pick me!!!! <boomerang frantically waves his hand in the air>

Oh, I just can't wait. http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=28949227&postcount=24

Just look at the pictures. There's a lot of them.

For those who don't know, burning someone in effigy is a form of political protest that is intended to show dislike for a figure, not as a direct desire for his death. While I have no doubt that some of the people burning Bush in effigy DID in fact wish for his death, that's not what the gesture stands for. So no, it's not the same thing. Anyone who is praying for Obama's death is simply batshit crazy.

All I can really say beyond that is ladies and gentlemen... Christianity, the religion of peace.

So are the "Death to Bush" signs "political protest"? And if someone had a Obama effigy being hung, or burned are you trying to get me to believe that his flock wouldn't shit their pants and call the person with it an evil racist wishing for the death of Obama? Or do you seriously believe that it would jst be taken as "political protest"?

That's something you'd have to ask someone that quotes the Bible, anything I have heard would be anecdotal.

Looks like you didn't follow his link(s). It shows a bunch people, presumably at different times/events, holding signs calling for Bush to be killed.

It's not really an efficgy thing.
--------------------

If I'd have seen the Psalms bumper sticker I would have thought them an Obama supporter.

It looks to me like somebody thought it a clever way to say they hope he's a one-term President. But Jeebus, you Obama supporters are mighty sensitive. What a big fuss over nothing much. (Turning this into calls for assasination is down right ridiculous). Then, predictably enough, you make a hard-left turn into bashing Christianity. I doubt the one has much, if anything, to do with the other. The bumper sticker may well be from some random entreprenuer trying to make a buck. (Or maybe the Pope is behind it!! ;) )

An interesting little nugget of information related to this thread came out at congressional hearings yesterday. Seems that oft quoted as "fact" 400% increase in death threats against the President since Obama was elected is a load of crap:

"The threats right now ... is the same level as it has been for the previous two presidents at this point in their administrations," - Mark Sullivan

Secret Service: Threats Against Obama No Higher than Normal

is the tree of liberty a poplar tree?

everyone knows that people who don't like Obama are racists.

What an ignorant statement, if I ever heard one. So, because he's black, we should excuse him for doing the same things we hated Bush for? We should overlook the fact that he promised to bring our troops home, and is now planning to deploy more troops instead? Obama should be judged by the same standards as other presidents, racism is just a diversion used by morons to defend him at all costs.

They're not explicitly calling him a n*****, but there's still plenty of good old fashioned racism behind a lot of this hate.

Please. It can't be that the people that don't like him don't like him because of his policies??? Or should we all tote the line and fall in step like good little sheeple.
You play the racism card when you know you can't beat the other talking points. That's the typical tactic.

Is Alan Keyes a racist? He doesn't support Obama's views, and he actually supports the 2nd Amendment and the rights of people to be in militia's ect. Oh, and he's black.

The only major groups that want to keep racism alive and well are the ones that "suffer" from it. Otherwise, they wouldn't be making any money. It is in Jesse Jackson and Al Sharptons best interests to keep racial tensions as high as possible.

Yes it can be. No one saying there is racism out there is claiming otherwise. There are a lot of reasons not to like Obama, some legitimate, some stupid, and some racist. If you want to talk about folks with a persecution complex, let's talk about all you folks that see accusations of blanket racism where there are none.

Oh Noes!!! You say racists don't like Obama, I don't like Obama, you are calling me a racist! OUTRAGE!!!
