I'd like to see a dual core G4 running at 200mhz FSB... maybe 1.7 and 2.0ghz versions. Apple is way behind in the battery area. I think they really need to pay attention there. I'm sure they could increase battery performance quite a bit if they put their minds to it... no by designing better power management... just by using better higher capacity batteries. Another thing I'd like to see is a higher resolution screan. Hey, I guess it doesn't matter. I'm plenty satisfied with my current apple product. I will continue to use it until they significantly improve their powerbook line until I deam it to be a cost effective upgrade. I'll be damned if I'm going to upgrade to something that's only 15-25% better than my current machine. So, how bad does apple want my money... that is the question!
BTW, I'm fairly cetrain that the only notebook which comes with a regular CD drive is the uber stripped down edu 12" iBook which you can opt to buy without the cdrw/dvd drive for $50 less. That machine isn't avaliable to the general public. All the powerbooks have base cdrw/dvd drives or super drives. None of the general public books (iBook or PB) are offered with a plain CD drive if memory serves me correctly. The bottom of the line 12" iBook may be able to be ordered with it (either through edu or by subtracting it from a normal purchase). The reason the iBook 12" doesn't have a superdrive yet is because it's too close to the "professional" 12" powerbook... while still not as nice all around as the 12" powerbook, the 12" iBook is a great machine and w/ a superdrive would steal much of the 12" PB market...
Lets face it, if apple put 1) a very nice display 2) dual G4 running at current or better speeds (1.5 or 1.67ghz) 3) battery with 4-5 hrs life in their powerbooks they would gain a decent amount of market share from the PC market. I have PC using friends that eye up my powerbook all the time. 4 people on my floor of the dorm have switched to using a mac this year after playing with mine (and obviously needing or really wanting) a new computer. They are good machines... but still apple needs to do some work. They already have the OS... now brush up the hardware!
