Another thread taken completely off course by alkemyst's trolling. As usual, alkemyst is a court-appointed expert on any topic over which he opines. Except in this case it's not just that he's wrong but that he's so outrageously wrong. And everybody knows it. There is surely something wrong with him. I don't know which psychiatric disorder he has but absolutely he has at least one.

I have owned a power boat (14' Aluminum with a 20 HP) for 20 years. The only occasion where I came close to a collision was when a sailboat just about rammed us while we were trying to catch mackerels out in the middle of the Halifax harbor with the engine turned off.

Power boat owner don't have a monopoly on the clueless dumbfuckness.

And I would like to thank everybody in this thread for the ass whooping poor old Alky is getting. LOL, well done.

Yeah, I realize this. Someone else mentioned PWC users but I haven't really had any issues with them around here. They zip along but they don't create much wake out in the bay so as long as they don't run into me or get really close they don't bother me. And we managed to have a great time sailing in the bay for 5 hours and only encountered one dumbfuck the entire time.

about as right as you having a muscle car I guess.

Wow, you keep coming up with the same line.

How's your little closet for a kitchen in your tiny little house in your stray cat infested property in the ghetto....baller. You're living like a king. Bought a car yet big man? Or can we expect another thread about it soon.

EDIT: I bet his response will be "U mad?"

In this case, I believe you have the right of way because you are not under power. Correct me if I am wrong.....I promise I won't cry.

The sailboat owner knew he was in the wrong and gave us a $100.00 to replace the fishing rod my wife shoved overboard as she was getting ready to jump in the water. I yelled to her not to jump and the sailboat just missed us by inches.

Alkemyst is the talentless clown that shows up for American idol, auditions with his tone-def, horrible lack of talent-self, and despite being told how horrible and lacking in talent he is by the judges, will proceed to curse them out and blame them for all his failures.

In the end, it's not completely Alkemyst's fault--no one ever told him that he was a prick in RL--they just stopped talking to him or hanging out with him. And his mommy and daddy simply always loved him, as parents tend to do (As he said--Daddy did pay for the boat). It wasn't until the internet that he started receiving criticism. It is new and confusing for him.

cut him some slack, guys.

But according to alky he has been on the internet since it started... so surely he would have got used to it by now?

No, it applies to all sized vessels. If you are in the channel a larger boat tends to stick to it's course knowing it can clear the ground below it. Right of way almost always goes from larger boat to smaller. You can think otherwise, but you'd be wrong. Out of politeness a larger boat can move/yield.

Boat renters are a huge problem, the water maggot (jetski) crowd more so.

In general though usually the sail types stay out of the power boat areas and stick to the edges of a channel.

Will you please SHUT THE HELL UP?

Really. Get a clue. This is so wrong.... it's beyond description.

Sailboats have a KEEL. Meaning that in many many many situations, they are forced to the middle of channels to insure they have enough depth. They are also extremely limited manueverability wise. They do not have twin 500 horsepower motors, cannot start and stop on a dime, and have way more momentum than a powerboat the same size but half their weight.

You obviously have no clue (par for the course for you). In addition, generally speaking, sailing takes a bit of skill to learn. It's more than turn the key and shove a lever forward. Finally, accidents at 6 miles per hour are a whole lot different than those at 40 with no seat belts.

There are only a couple problems with PWC's. First, they don't understand that they are required by law to run several hundred yards off shore. PWC's running down swimmers is very common.

Second, PWC's rarely follow a straight course. It's like trying to share the road with an idiot who can't stay in his lane.

Third, PWC drivers often mix alcohol with their sport. It's a real problem.

I could keep going. I routinely see these dumbfucks out after dark with no lights. It's like they WANT to die.

Who cares if they run a straight course. There are no fucking lanes in the open water. No one says you have to follow in a straight line. Most boats on the water aren't fast enough to overtake one so this really becomes a non issue.

People drink and drive Cars, boats, sail boats, PWC's, buses, trucks, whatever...there is no need to say we OFTEN mix alcohol with our boating. I don't drink and drive anything and I could bet that the majority of responsible boaters out there are the same.

Where I ride, I rarely see them out after dark. It is stupid and illegal.

You can defend it all you want but it's no different than a dude showing up looking like Rabbit from 9 mile saying he is a rocket scientist.

Add that to the fact that down here they get hurt and then try to sue the boat owner.

I'm not sure wich to be honest.

anyway. this weekend went down to southern IL to go fishing with my dad (and it was his 68th Birth DAY! woot). spent most of Sunday on his fishing boat. I only got 2 tiny fish =( it was not a good day for me. on Saturday though my daughter got a bunch of bass and crappies (about 20 in total!).

Then got out his pantoon boat and cruised around crab orchard! woot

Well, at least he gave up on trying to call me out as being in the wrong in the scenario I originally posted in this thread. Guess he finally realized he was wrong and just let it go. Now he's just arguing with everyone else for the sake of arguing...typical.

Glad you had a good time out on the water.

This thread is now about motorboating....

You are not even a boob owner, you obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Try that crap with a boob owner and the Coast Guard WILL NOT be on your side, rest assured. :colbert:

You got that as backwards as considering a 14' 20HP dinghy is a powerboat.

My aunt and uncle have a place on the bay in Door County...they own a pantoon boat and a couple others. What's down in Southern Illinois though? You talking a small lake?
