That's why the person buying the tickets scanned them all in beforehand so we knew which ones were ours.
 
I clean out my wallet at lunch time today and I do have exact 2 of $1 bill, enough to buy 1 Powerball ticket.

Come on, lucky spirit, let me win so I can fly first class Trans-Pacific on my next trip and other nice thingies.

Maybe he means each ATOTer is responsible for multiplying their winnings by 10x, being super geniuses and all. Either that or it's just a simple mistake of the decimal point because he was typing too fast due to the fact that he doesn't want to waste too much time among us plebs.

I can't imagine at all what kind of weird stuff he would buy or how much trouble he would get himself into.

As far as how to invest? Buy low sell high on everything from real estate to the stock market. Start a few companies and hold them while they are still profitable and drop them fast if not. Don't allow anyone to take control or responsibility for your money or your companies over for you.
 
I did a pool with members here a couple of times. We won basically nothing but had a pool of 1,000 to 2,000 dollars worth of tickets each time. It made me realize how futile the attempt was at winning.

AT mods were against doing a group lotto, or we'd be still doing it! If the new regime is ok with it, I wouldn't mind doing it again!

The problem before was paypal, even when we gifted it, some people still sent it with comments 'YAY AT LOTTO', so they banned my accounts. Amazon gift cards worked fine, but those were harder to turn into cash for me. I am sure there are some free solutions out there now, but people would most likely have to sign up for it.

If I play the lottery, and I very rarely ever do, I would never go in with an expectation of winning it.

But then you have to wonder: If you don't expect to win then why play?

Last time I did it I think we all won $4-5 each after the split and decided we'd just donate it to charity or something.
 
Disappoint's attempt to prevent gambler's addiction for you:

Some might say if you buy a lot of tickets you increase your chance of winning, and that's true but even if you buy a lot of tickets your chances of winning will still be abysmally bad. If you spend $2 on the lottery and you lose it's no big loss. But if you spend hundreds or thousands on it and you still lose that would sting pretty bad wouldn't it? You're essentially paying a voluntary tax.

So if you're going to play I say spend a small amount of money you don't mind losing and don't expect to win because in all likelihood you won't.

You might think this is obvious but you might not believe how many people can be oblivious to what's obvious to you.

I'm also against group buys because if the person who holds the tickets wins he is under no obligation to hand over any winnings to you and there is a potential for conflict there I'd rather avoid. Now I wonder if there have ever been any lawsuits regarding lottery pools and what the outcome was.

edit: A quick search reveals there have been a lot of lawsuits, and some lost their suit and some won, but the details of each were different.

I would be down for doing another group buy, but we need to find a payment method that will let us do it!

The rules would be the same, we win, your share is a division of winners. We win 200 mil after tax, we have 100 shares bought out, you get 2 mil per share. We would do a lump draw, and i'd have an accountant or lawyer do the cashout just to make sure it's all legal for your state/gift.

After the drawing, members report any winnings and arrange distribution to the group.

Nah, with a public pool big enough the hope is to get somebody from a state that doesn't tax lotto winnings to buy the tickets.
