Powerball jackpot at $400 million - Oops! $1.5 billion - $40 mil

I feel so sorry for the folks who join a lottery pool to increase their odds (yes it does, a little) only to find out later that the one person who won it was some obscure 58 year old woman who picked up a quick pick ticket on her way home from work.

You can read the winner's stories on their website.

Yes, I realize lottery pools do win from time to time as well. But when they lose to someone who just picked up one quick pick and their attempts to increase their odds of winning failed I often wonder if they are a little miffed about that until I realize most people don't even realize just how random and astronomically unlikely it is they will win even if they attempt to increase their odds a bit.

Worst 2 dollars I've ever spent in years.
After all, it's a rigged system don't ya know?
It's organized crime, so they control who, where, and when the winner is picked.
Numbers have nothing to do with it.
It all boils down to, should we allow a winner? And how many? And from which area(s) of the country for maximize future interest?

Put it this way....
"If" you did happen to pick the correct number(s), the machine would simply reject and select a different series of numbers that no one chose.
And when the mob decides to allow a winner, the machine picks whether it will be one winning ticket, two, twelve, or twelve hundred winners.
So in all reality, no matter what numbers you play, you would lose unless they wanted someone to win.
And that brings the odds of winning down to negative -zero-.

It's all a game, and a completely rigged game at that. Just like in any casino.
They say the odds are what, one in 292.2 million of winning?
THAT would be if this were legit.
But if people only knew the true odds of winning, no one would ever play.
If the mob doesn't want a winner, no one will win plain and simple.

So yes, you "could" have indeed chosen all the correct numbers including the correct Powerball, but your winning numbers would then be rejected and instead a series of unpicked numbers re-selected before the balls come into play.
Really folks... how do you think organized crime and gambling works, anyway?
And why do you think it's called THE ODDS OF WINNING?
ODDS is the codeword for we, never you, control what happens.

New jackpot $1.3 billion.

I'm not surprised. I'm not sure if people understand how less likely it is to win when you jump from 1 in 175 million odds to 1 in 292 million odds. That's over 100 million more combinations to choose from.

It's like you literally have to win 2 lotteries in a row. One with 1 in 175 million odds and another one with 1 in 117 million odds.

Someone here joked they would win both the Mega Millions and the Powerball at the same time. The funny thing is now it's as if you have to do that to win just the new Powerball jackpot.

I would only play office pools so I'm not left out/pass my bad luck onto them and still play on my own even if part of office pool. I would dodge the duty of being the one getting the tickets and if I couldn't escape the duty of picking tickets up, I would make sure the office pool is well documented so if I win on my own, no one can claim a share.

6 states allow anonymity for lottery winners but there is a loophole, one can setup a LLC to hide identity behind. If there is one thing the wealthy actors or well known businessmen want is anonymity.

To remain anonymous would be crucial for enjoying the money without stress. I would hire a lawyer to setup the LLC (already picked a great name) without disclosing the win. One has a year to claim the win, plenty of time to come up with a cover story to gradually explain signs of wealth that would start showing (quit the job to start own business etc etc). No lawyer or financial adviser to mooch, scam or reveal identity.

It's almost like they should split the jackpot into $100M lots and draw more than one number.

^^Commie go home!

Looks like someone is gonna join the three comma club on Wednesday!

Now they'll be able to afford a car with doors that go up and down instead left and right like the rest of us commoners 🙂

All my winnings must be waiting for the next drawing, didn't match any numbers. Have a good about of Powerball toilet paper now.

That's not even remotely correct. Math isn't your strong suit is it?

I would be down for doing another group buy, but we need to find a payment method that will let us do it!

The rules would be the same, we win, your share is a division of winners. We win 200 mil after tax, we have 100 shares bought out, you get 2 mil per share. We would do a lump draw, and i'd have an accountant or lawyer do the cashout just to make sure it's all legal for your state/gift.

Have you looked at Google Wallet? I buy some stuff off of FS/T forums on reddit, and people prefer Google Wallet over paypal. I assume because it's free up to a certain point?
