Poutine - I can see why this Canadian thing never caught on in America

French fries, gravy, cheese $14 CAD ($10 usd)

I'm in Canada.
It wasn't bad but don't understand the fascination Canucks have over this dish.

They certainly didn't skimp on the gravy.

The clumps of 'cheese' that look like gobs of fat is not appealing at all.

Cheese fries are great. I use melted or shredded cheese, not gobs of clots.

Gravy on mashed, sliced or baked potatoes is great.

I don't see mixing those.

Those are cheese curds. They're quite tasty, have a 'particular' texture though that a few people on the planet may not appreciate.

Warm, with fries and gravy? They're gobsmacking.

Is that at a sit down restaurant? They never have as good of poutine as actual chip stands or dedicated poutine take out places, at least I find.

That also is Quebec style, you can ask for regular, and you get shredded cheese. Or mixed, you get both. Do not ask for regular if you are actually in Quebec though, I'm pretty sure that's illegal.

And now I'm hungry for poutine.

I've only had poutine a few times, but in my limited experience I agree with Red Squirrel. Don't get poutine in a sit-down restaurant. I don't understand a strong love of poutine, but it tastes fine.

14$ is a bit much for what you got there, and there's no added meat or anything, that's just a plain poutine.....looks good though, i would inhale that

Some of the dye-nahs around here will make you fries with gravy. Had to use my Jersey accent there.

I'm going to have to try that sometime.

Poutine, like a lot of starch base dishes, is a lot more fun when you make it at home and customize the toppings to your hearts desire.

I'd like to make a "biscuits and gravy" take on poutine with a roux gravy, sausage + bacon, and sharp cheddar cheese.

I'd certainly eat it, but kinda feel like shifting from brown gravy to pepper gravy is moving away from qualifying as poutine.

Just going by the pic I would rather have a beef or turkey with gravy and mashed potatoes open face sandwich or shit on the shingles (hamburger gravy on toast or biscuits). I was also very fond of BLTs in my youth. You would also have to fight me over my grandmothers bacon gravy. It's been almost 6 years since I've at meat though.

Poutine is good but that’s in in my opinion. I have had it in Vermont, Maine and Canada. It’s all very similar. I had one the was basically “Greek” it has some gyro meat on it. That one was particularly good. I had a vegetarian version in Vancouver that was excellent.
I’d never say no to t some poutine but I’d also never go out of my way to get some.

I dont really dine out much any more, but seems like Poutine is available at pretty much every gastropub and lots of other restaurants here in Illinois.

It's weird that Canada has claimed cheesy chips with gravy as a national dish.
I mean I suppose they did ruin it by using curds instead of cheddar so I guess that kinda makes it different to that perennial student breakfast of leftover fast food from last night btyg.
