I'm wondering if it's because of cool and quiet. Mines enabled and the couple times it dropped just 1 was at the start of the clip. Will have to download it and try with cq disabled.

Decided to run one of the demos on my secondary system, 2600+, 256mb ram, and a radeon 9600xt. The clip played perfectly and the stats showed not a single lost frame. Also had seti running.

Also tested on my a64 3000+, 512mb ram, and radeon 9800 pro flashmodded to XT. Ran without a hitch, no dropped frames with seti, IE, and iTunes running in the background.

Just dropped 2 with CQ disabled. Didn't get the dropped frame at the start like before. When CPU was going from 800-2000. Came towards the end of the clip the huge wave part.

Tried it on my notebook XP 2000+\512 2100DDR\ATi 320M IGP and it was literally a slide show. Next up is my 2700+\nF2\512mb 2700dc-ddr\TI4600 VIVO.

I just got my 6800 standard installed
Stock Clockspeed
1600x1200@85Hz desktop
Asus Nforce2
Mobile Barton @ 2.0Ghz
6.1.7.2 Forceware
WMP9

VMR7 mode (VMR + Overlay)
Step into Liquid 1080p Full screen

22 frames skipped (starts when Slater? compares it to the mob)

CPU load is 79%-100%

Edit: added CPU load

I'm completely confused what is influencing this trailer now, how 'bout you? It does seem like A64 guys are dropping the most frames though. I'm having problems with my 2700+ system so I'm going to do a fresh install and then I'll see how it runs on it.

BTW, thanks for doing so much testing on this, I think it proves that you are right about the DVP not being a factor.

Is it also safe to say that people with 6800s are primarily the ones getting the dropped frames? If so, maybe it's a driver issue with the new GPU?

I guess not. You dropped them with a 9800P and not the GT. I don't know....

I upped my FSB a little to 190x11 2.1GHz

16 frames skipped same exact spot.

Does seem like CPU. I can run the file and consistentatly get the same #'s.....a little more FSB....a little less skipped frames. I'll know more after I do more testing. Well, if the PVP is not assisting the decode like I suspect, it should mean good things when they enable it in the drivers. It also makes me wonder whether its the same issue as with Catalyst. The skuttlebutt is that MS needs to release a hot patch for it to be enabled. Its been in the Catalyst Drivers for a "looong" time now awaiting the fix. Otherwise, whats the hold up with the PVP?

Interesting tidbit from my BenchemAll system info log:

"nv4_disp.dll

What do you make of that?

I also ran it with my CPU@ 2.28 MHz 380/850 on the card..no skipped frames, just like butter 🙂

To me the fact that your CPU load hit 100% and you dropped frames means that the dropped frames are caused by the CPU, not the GPU. My CPU usage never went above 90%.

Has anyone seen a current test between these new cards with the newer drivers?

Not that I will pay the current prices...waiting for readily availiable $300 XT or $300 GT..but I bet nvidia is faster now.

Hey DP congrats on lifer...should be elite but I guess you don't post enough "OMG my ingrown toenail hurts so bad" types of posts to qualify.🙂 Oh and good to see you got it, *the* card.🙂

It infers that it is being decoded in software (cpu), overclocking the cpu causes it to drop less frames until it is finally fast enough to not drop any. That tells me that the WMV acceleration isn't working(or not working well). The fact that there are Radeon cards that can play it back without dropping frames reinforces that. I know for a fact that the WMV acceration isn't working with Catalyst drivers. I suspect the same for Forceware based on performance.

Chew on this:
Barton 2500+ oced to 2266mhz (3322+)
1 gig kingston value ram at 412fsb
Geforce 3 TI 200 64mb (not oced when running for once)

I ran it and it seemed to be a slideshow. Maybe its my card? Ill oc it back up to its usual (204/481) later and see if it imroves any at all later. If not it must me my install of WM9 or something.

System specs were indentical for both with a A64@2.4ghz. I was hoping some of you r420 owners could run the trailer and see if you drop any frames or not, TIA for any results you can provide, and please include CPU speed.

I don't know if this helps, but to provide another datapoint, might I suggest suggesting to others to download the new beta of "G-spot", it's a program that analyses media files, and can also display installed codecs, and the actual rendering "path" (DirectShow) of the audio and video streams.

Perhaps some of the people responding, have other, additional codecs or other DirectShow-controller components in the stream, thus slowing down the overall decoding? Plus, it might show whether or not things like VMR or WMV accelleration are actually occurring.

Edit: Here's the link, sorry for not linking in my original post.

LOL, Thanks brudda

Thanks VirtualLarry, That is an excellent idea, I'll add your suggestion

Marsumane, that throws a monkey wrench into things since @that CPU clockspeed your system should be fairly smooth during playback. I'd love to see Anand explore WMV HD's potential as a bench. He would be able to determine what is necessary in the way of CODECs, ect. to make it a standardized test. The results we are all getting, and my sudden stop to loosing frames just by switching vid cards is preplexing 😕 This could use professional attention.

I'd like to let you know that the 1080p clips that I downloaded just b!tch slapped my machine around! :|

System
Mobile 2600+ Athlon XP @ 2.2GHz
1GB of PC3200 Crucial memory
ATi 8500 <= 🙁

Anyway, this sucks ass! :|

How many frames were dropped or did the movie look more like a slideshow? Maybe it's time to upgrade the videocard...
