I always found it puzzling that AMD offered a enthusiast oriented unlocked part, but states that the second you do anything enthusiast-ish and use the unlocked multiplier, you're warranty is void. I mean, I understand they don't want to cover some naive, well-meaning tinkerer putting 1.7 volts through it on the stock cooler going for 5.5GHz who RMA's the chip after smelling smoke. :) Maybe AMD will bring out some sort of copycat protection plan. Of course, most enthusiasts look to Intel these days... I still wouldn't mind having an 8350 to play with if the price was right... of course those $99 Microcenter 2500K's are quite appealing. I'm just thinking out loud now, I suppose I should end this random post at this point. :D

Points well made. I think from what I read, the 8350s do clock slightly higher but since the 8320s are 3.5/4.0 and the 8350s are 4.0/4.2 it appears the OC amount on the 8320s might be higher.

Who knows, Intel came out with their "K" branded chips in obvious tip of the hat to AMD's previously released "Black" chips. So maybe AMD will come out with a Performance Optimization Protection Plan to mirror Intel's Performance Tuning Protection Plan ;)

Do you think it would be cost effect for them to offer it? Seems like Intel somewhat has the advantage being they sell so many more chips.

So when are you gonna start your overclocking adventure? Guessing we'll be seeing another one of your great threads.

But you made that purchase post so many posts back! That doesn't correlate to number of days in transit? Surely when you put something like that on a forum, NewEgg gets it to you in ~10 or so posts, right?

We are taking the latter part of that for granted around here

Please stop insisting on crapping on this thread. Such comments don't belong here and will only serve to antagoinze other people.

I get it, you don't like Vishera. None of us care, and your raging hate for it does not belong here. It would be better if you just leave the thread of your own volition.

Please stop insisting my fascination with Vishera is negative and not fact driven, I have just as much common interest as you, if you don't care for my reasoning don't comment.

The difference is that I do not threadcrap and border on trolling.

As I've explained earlier, this is not an Intel vs AMD thread, or a Vishera review thread, or a "help, is Vishera worth overclocking?" thread.

This is a "Post your OC results" thread. Your posts do not belong here. Please do not make me explain this again, because I do not want to and I am certain you understand the rules.

Ok here's a deal. Buy a Vishera and then post your overclocks in this thread. Otherwise your posts aren't really helping anyone out. You like Intel. That's cool. Just please don't antagonize the company or anyone who bought their products.

Nowhere in my post history do I thread crap, I thread fact. If the facts that matter to me do not belong in this thread please do a better job of moderating the " thinly veiled insults " posted by numerous members in this thread as I'm pretty sure that's against the rules and yet you seem as if you could care less.

Yes, you are threadcrapping, and you are getting an infraction for it
You don't own this cpu, and its a thread about overclocks on a cpu you don't own.

BD231 the thing is that you are not helping anyone with your posts since you don't have Vishera and you cannot test one. The thread title is clear and is about posting the OCed results of new FX. We know you don't like it,that's OK. But please leave the topic alone if all you can say on topic of Vishera is that it's "inferior hardware".

Well, that's clearly not true. Your infraction record has four counts of thread crapping, from three different mods.

My problem is that you started the whole thing - all the off topic talk and the antagonism started because of you barging into a "post your OC thread" by spewing negative crap that does not belong here. Since you have not been infracted, and instead I was trying to reason with you as best as I can as a member, naturally I would also opt to not strictly moderate those you did manage to antagonize.

The easy solution is: stop your antagonistic postings that do not belong here, and the members will stop reacting to the antagonism you seem eager to spread.

However, it seems reasoning with you is going nowhere and my bargaining in good faith has resulted in just more thread derail. So I am now done talking as a member.

    Speaking as a moderator:

    To everyone, not just BD231:

From this post on, no more thread crapping or posts that contribute to the existing thread derail that is happening.

Post OC results, settings, or relevant discussions (tweaking, figures, performance increases, efficiency, etc), or get out of the thread. No more thread-crapping or derailing.

Simply put, if you don't like Vishera and just want to "remind" everyone how much it sucks, then you don't belong in the Vishera OC thread.

After this post, infractions will be issued to anyone who chooses to continue with the derails (such as replying in kind to BD231) or thread-crap (such as emulating what BD231 has been doing so far).

I know, right!? How dare they make me wait 3days :colbert:

    :D

LOL, the real irony for me was that everything I buy from Newegg comes from NJ, it is almost always here next day even though I only pay for 3-day shipping (or take the free egg-saver 4-6 day shipping, still get it next day)...only this time when I'm down a computer and have time on my hands they end up shipping the FX8350 out of their California warehouse, so I'm getting the full experience of waiting to see what brown can do for me ;) :p

Waiting for the package to be delivered is like being told by your parents on Christmas morning that it's not yet time to come down and look under the Christmas tree!:D
At almost 62 years old I remember my poor mom and dad telling my older sister and me that we had to wait just a little longer. Then finally the mad dash down the stairs. I hope your wait is over today, Idontcare.

BTW, I went back to a straight 8350 OC of 4.5 Ghz (22.5 x 200). Great balance of power usage etc.

Just for a reference; my 6100 had a 5.15 Cinebench score at 4.22GHz. That was the best run - fluctuated from 5.05 to 5.15.

The 8320 that I am using right now scores a 6.06 at stock - exactly what is shown on the bottom chart from anandtech.

Haven't used the 6100 in a while now and my memory stinks , but I think you could loose some of the voltage and still be stable at 4.2. I was running 4.2 with turbo enabled to 4.7 and stable at around 1.42 volts - if my memory can be trusted.

Just got my FX8350, was kinda surprised at how lackluster the packaging was in terms of sealing the CPU inside the retail metal canister.

That little green AMD logo sticker you see peeled back on the right-hand side of the photo is literally all that keeps a retail CPU inside its retail packaging.

I thought I must have received an open-box item from Newegg, one little sticker isn't going to keep prowling hands from playing with a cpu and then reselling it. There is a reason, after all, that retail products are shrink-wrapped and sealed with break-apart stickers and so on for the purposes of alerting consumers to retail products that have been tampered with.

But alas, unboxing videos on youtube all show the same thing. One little green sticker is all you get. I guess I'll just have to assume some 14yr old hasn't already jacked this chip up to 5.5GHz with 1.8V...that is why I don't buy used, but an element of faith is now involved in this equation :\

At any rate, not like there is anything I can do about it - pre-owned or not - its what I have now and I don't intend on sending it back.

^ that darker grey scuff you see dead-center of the IHS is real, I confirmed it is physically on the IHS. I see these on Intel IHS's too so I don't take it as cause for concern.

So what I really wanted to know from the AMD gurus is whether or not there are any batch numbers that I should be looking at to give me an indication of whether this cpu can be expected to be a golden sample or a lemon?

From the photo it looks like batch 1237. BTW what cpu cooler are you going to use?
