I don't know, I remember what it was like to be 14, pretty sure I wouldn't have been traumatized. The article doesn't mention rape or anything, so it sounds like it was consensual (and yes I know it's technically rape because the law says a 14 year old cannot consent to sex, but was just pointing out it doesn't sound like she forced him into this).

Of course there's a double standard, though. I'm sure most people would be up in arms if this was a 28 year old male and 14 year old female.

Well he is below the age of legal consent, so in the eyes of the law it was not consensual. Same way that I could convince a 14 year old girl to perform sexual acts with me, but it wouldn't be okay in court because she said I could.

You know what I'm talking about, though. Fine, hand out some punishment, but it shouldn't be on the same level as a violent rape or sexual assault. Life in prison? Sheesh.

I doubt she'll get it though. Judges can and do look at the specific circumstances of a case before sentencing and I doubt the judge will decide on the maximum possible sentence for something like this unless something unexpected comes up during the trial.

The family has a baby sitter. The 14 yo isnt the one being sat, but the parents obviously don't think the 14yo can sit the younger kids, so they get a sitter for all of them.

I know physically girls mature earlier and faster than boys. Psychologically I don't know how they compare, maybe somebody more knowledgeable on this can weigh in. If they mature sooner than boys in this area as well, one could make the argument that the 14 year old girl would be more prepared for sex than the 14 year old boy.
