That's a negative on the standard AC

1. Browse to here
2. Click "Top Down Exhiliration"
3. Look for the very dark gray on black print toward the bottom: "*Starting price does not include AC or manual transmission"
4. ...
5. Profits

And there you go, although the note about the AC also includes information about the transmission that conflicts with what Bob Lutz said so it still may be up in the air.
well, that isn't nice

but the grand prix GXP is getting what it always needed, a 5.3 liter V8 🙂

well, actually now it needs rwd.
torque steer ++

fwd cars should not get more than 200hp, anything over = torque steer

hmm......seems to be hot, i'd rather stick with a miata, thanks.

Damn sexy car, but I'm scared to death of GM's build quality. I'm still going to go with a Mini Cooper S convert.

You're talking in general right? Because neither the Solstice nor the Miata are FWD...

$20k convertible cruiser not standard with AC? they are getting kinda ridiculous with meeting the $20k limit
Almost makes sense if you're buying this as a pleasure car, though I'd rather they give up the 18" wheels, power windows, leather and power roof first...

Promise Kept: Pontiac Solstice sticker to start at $19,995 when it goes on sale this summer
DALE JEWETT | Automotive News
Posted Date: 2/25/05

DETROIT --
Delivering on one of General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz?s promises, the base price of the 2006 Pontiac Solstice roadster will be less than $20,000 -- just barely.

The Solstice will carry a sticker price of $19,995, including a $575 destination charge, when it goes on sale this summer. Lutz announced the base price Tuesday on GM?s web log site, fastlane.gmblogs.com

Pontiac expects to begin accepting orders from dealers this spring, a Pontiac spokesman said.

Base equipment on the Solstice includes a 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine; five-speed manual transmission; four-wheel disc brakes; power steering; and 18-inch wheels.

The option list includes packages for power-operated windows, locks and mirrors, and leather-trimmed interior. Anti-lock brakes, limited-slip rear differential, XM satellite radio and a radio that includes a plug in for an external digital music player are stand-alone options.

A well-equipped Solstice will have a sticker price of around $24,000, a Pontiac spokeswoman said.

The Solstice?s base price undercuts the competing Mazda Miata by more than $2,000. The base price of a 2005 Miata is $22,658, including a $560 destination charge. The top trim level Miata, the MX-5 Mazdaspeed Grand Touring, carries a base price of $27,140 including the destination charge.

I'm still thinking that leasing one of these is going to the way to go. I'd venture to guess the residual is going to be pretty decent (assuming quality holds up) and with an already low purchase price you'll have some very manageable monthly payments.

These aren't daily drivers so the milage isn't a concern and you won't ever have to drop any money into wear and tear stuff short of oil changes on it. Sounds like a good deal for somebody that's got an extra $200-$250 a month burning a hole in their pocket and want's something fun to scoot around in on the weekends.

(not counting insurance premiums of course)
