In my opinion, GMC should be gone instead. Pontiac was finally getting some good products from Holden, such as the G8. There's also the Solstice.

Pontiac should be axed...but save the G8...rebadge it as the top of the line Chevy sedan (replace current Impala if need be)...and make the GXP the SS version.

I never saw he point of GMC either...

I think it should just be Chevy, Cadillac...and maybe Buick if need be. What ever you do GM...just don't stop making the Corvette...I'd be heartbroken.

If Chevy can have the Corvette it can have the G8. The corvette is an awesome sports car, the G8 can be their sports sedan.

Getting rid of Pontiac before, Saturn, GMC or Buick? Brilliant business decisions like this are the reason you're heading to bankruptcy GM.

Rofl. I agree with these thoughts.
With GM cars, I tend to see more pontiac cars around here then the others.

One thing I hated about GM was too many cross brand platforms, they should have cut the number of chassis and concentrate on on fewer individual model per brand. there really wasn't much difference between the brands per chassis.

This is a problem that all American brands are plagued with.

There is no individuality, no creative thinking.

Just look at the Germans for instance.

They know what they will be building 10 years ahead. Each one of their models goes through a continuous refresh and redesign / re-engineering cycle. The result is excellent and well refined. Just look at the 3-series for instance.

Extremely well managed. Look at it's progress through the years. You can see the organization in the development process.

American brands on the other hand, flip-flopping crap all around. No effort no conformity.

Like Pariah was saying...Ponitac was the one putting it's crap together with a better line up then all of that effort goes down the crapper.

Saturn and Buick should have taken the fall first.

Like everyone else is saying, move the G8 and solstice over to Chevy. They also need to get rid of GMC Saturn Hummer and Saab on Monday too.

I don't think it really matters in the end which brands are axed...but they need to cut them down. No matter what brand they axed some one would be moaning. But since there's usually a clone of all the vehicles under one name plate in another, its not like anything was actually lost. And if there isn't, badge reverse engineer it back under chevy or whatever.

GMC does sell just duplicates of Chevy trucks and SUVS, so it would seem unneeded. However, it is GM's best selling and profitable brand.

If true, there's going to be some recent Ponchos that will very definitely be collectable in the future.

Wonder what kind of fire sale you'll see on existing inventory and what it does to resale in the used market.

FYI,

Saturn, Hummer, and Saab were cut before Pontiac. Pontiac's (rumored) demise is the latest.

The "Pontiac" brand is worthless, which is what they're axing. They can keep on bringing cars from Australia and just not brand them as something that evoke the image of "cheap plasticky cars with rubbed for her pleasure styling". At this point, Pontiac is nothing more than an ugly grill on foreign GM cars.

Just bring over Opel and sell the next gen G8s as a premium-ish brand a la VW.

So, the timing of eliminating brands is important?

Saturn has a potential buyer and the details are being worked out. It's been announced that GMC, although originally a keeper may go. Buick was always going to remain. But why it would matter which goes first is puzzling me. I should say that IMO, they're all going to go away.

:music:This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
Ill never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...strangers hand
In a...desperate land :music:

Kill everything that isn't Chevrolet or Cadillac, move the good cars to these brands. Call the G8 an Impala and call it a day

GMC is almost like a non-brand, it doesn't really have an identity like the others (IMO). Buick has "old people" written all over it (although I love the 90s Riviera body style).

And if you take away fleet sales to construction companies/government/etc?

Most of GMC's sales would simply default to Chevrolet.

All the cars are basically run on the same lines and just "badged" as different models.

They should have GM, Cady, and Saturn, which are the only unique models they had. Some 'genius' has even tried to remove what made Saturn unique, and is just rebadgeing the same old crap as a Saturn (trailblazers come to mind).

Killing Pontiac won't kill the G8, It will just be called something else.
