WoW, obviously. Sony couldn't code a game if their life depended on it, or come up with a decent storyline either, for that matter. I took it in the rear from them for 4 years playing EQ, but no more.

There is no question WoW will win any poll you take, it is very popular because it is Warcraft. 98% of the people in these polls have played one or the other not both. My preference is EQ2 myself. The only way to know which game is better for you is to play both.
You will find more "I'm l33t!" players in WoW, EQ2 has a slightly older crowd playing.
Graphics: EQ2 wins this down hand, it has better graphics by alot. WoW has a more cartoon look, which isn't bad, but the graphics can't be put on the same level.
Group/Solo: EQ2 is by far more group based, you can solo, but grouping is the way to go. WoW has alot more soloing you could do.
Interface: WoW is easier, EQ2 is more involved.
Crafting: EQ2 has the best crafting system out there bar none, it is fantastic, however they do need to change the whole broker/selling thing, having to be logged in can be iritating.
Quests: Both actually did a good job, there are alot of quests in both, tho EQ2 has more and are more involved, I've never had less then 15 quests in my journal at any one time. WoW has alot of quests also, tho many you can solo, EQ2 needs a group for most.
You bring up a few good points, I'll address them in order
- I watched EQ go from a game where "d00dsp34k" was frowned upon and auction /shouters were politely asked not to do so, to one where "y b plz 2 ur ne1" was accepted as a grammatically correct sentence and 9 in 10 auctions were done in /shout. "PST" got its start in EQ, and the only player run casinos I've seen are in EQ. On the contrary, I've seen a lot of EQ expatriates in WoW, including a big chunk of my old EQ server. In essence, I think that despite Blizzard's reputation, Sony has won the "1337 \/\/4Rz", in that their games now have more 10-12 year old players per capita than Blizzard's.
- I'll point out that WoW's graphical quality is excellent and that cartoony isn't necessarily bad (it was a concern of mine, but proved unfounded), and that Blizzard makes much more efficient use of system resources. Further, you're looking at a 6800GT at least if you want to play EQ2 in 10x7 or 12x10 with any eye candy at all. A year down the road it won't be such a big deal, but it is now.
- WoW's crafting system is easier, this is great for the newer / more casual gamer who just maybe wants to make himself a piece of armor, while EQ2's system might appeal to others who don't mind skilling up for months to reap greater benefits in terms of prestige and crafted goods sales. Neither is "better". Actually I'd prefer a tougher system like EQ's - I was a GM smith and made a mint because not many people wanted to go through the enormous hassle of doing that... but you can't have it all.
- You must not have gotten very far in WoW; my quest log is always full, and usually around 2/3 are elite quests, which require a group.
You made no mention of the in-game spam to buy other Sony products, the login screen asking you to do so as well or the fact that if you accidentally click "Purchase" instead of "Later" on said nag-screen, your credit card will be automatically charged, no confirmation screen, and that it's a nonrefundable purchase. You also made no mention of Sony's mmog storylines reading like a comic book aimed at the prepubescent crowd... Lol, I remember PoP's "Gods" storyline... it was comical until I realized I paid $40 so that the "1337" could raid while I sat in the only zone that money bought me . You made no mention of Sony "accidentally" billing its customers twice in a month, only making mention of it once in a patch message (which they know most don't read), and leaving it up to the customers affected by that to contact their credit card company and dispute the charge. You made no mention of Sony firing 90% of its GM staff and putting most of the few remaining ones on the $40/month server. You made no mention of them shipping customer support off to India. Last, you made no mention of the bugs. Sony's ultra-greedy business model means that instead of teams of highly qualified professionals, they have maybe one 22 y/o making $20k a year and a bunch of interns coding their games. WoW was less buggy 6 months previous to its retail release than EQ is 6 years after.
