I think it's an outstanding idea, invention, and feat of engineering. This thing is a technological marvel!
It is the first invention that adapts to the human and doesn't force the human to adapt to it.
Also, it will revolutionize cities. Sure, it's a lil slow (~12mph), but considering how much time people spend in traffic, it all evens out without the ridiculous costs of owning and maintaining a car (including gas). The city of Atlanta has already had city planners meet with Dean Kamen about Segway.
Give it time...you will see the redeeming features in time. It's new and, naturally, is being rejected by some at first. Remember what people said about the PC when it was released? Yeah, give it a few years to catch on in the consumer market. It already seems like a hit in the commercial/industrial market with the USPS, FedEx, Amazon.com, National Parks Service, and others supporting and adopting the Segway for their use.
Also, don't forget, the USA is not the only market for this. 😉 This will likely be a hit in Japan, China, and Mexico (specifically Mexico City) as well as other countries lacking space. It will eventually catch on in the states as well. However, the Segway will not revolutionize suburbia or areas with poor weather (until some sort of self-contained version is made with snow tires 😛).
