Fortunately, my SO would never, EVER allow herself to get preggers if she were raped. IMO, that's something I could never comprehend being allowed...having a child via rape.

Also, I'd be commited to a mental ward ("temporary insanity") not long after because I would hunt down and kill the person who raped my SO. I would not rest until that deed was done.

Exactly. If she truely was your SO you'd stand by her.

thank you ... at least a couple people on this board have some feelings

A relationship isn't a dictatorship. It's one thing to support your SO after she was raped. It's another thing to be forced to support the illegitimate child of a criminal for the rest of your life. When you are in a marriage or similar relationship, major decisions such as having children need to be made jointly with both parties on board.

For sure, I was more commenting on this:

"Case 2: Your SO does not get pregnant, but she still didn't respect your wishes to take the ECP to PREVENT the chance that she could get pregnant from the pregnancy. "

Sounds like the woman should be bound to whatever the man says.

I wouldnt leave her for this.I would probably reconsider the relationship.I just dont even think I would be interested in a girl that has such a stance.I have been with women who have used both ECP and had an abortion.I cant compehrend not taking the ECP.

That "illegitimate" child is born of and carries 50% of the genetic material from the one person in this world I love more than life itself. That is enough for me. That baby and my wife are not responsible for the crime that was committed that ended up producing new life. As I said initially I would support her no matter what decision she makes.

I couldn't be with someone who had a child that wasn't from me, even if it was from rape.

Why?

A pregnancy to me is probably the single biggest event I will ever experience in my life. I refuse to be with someone who has gone through with it because of someone else. I think this is especially true when the event was totally avoidable in the first place by taking the ECP which eliminates the possibility of an egg from becoming fertilized in the first place.

The only time the ECP would cause an abortion would be on the off chance that your SO became pregnant within the first 24 hours of the attack. To not take the pill is an absolute slap in my face and I wouldn't stand for it.

In a relationship, both parties have a say on what happens to the others body. There absolutely has to be discussion on what happens in a situation like this.

In my GF's case she would have to choose between keeping a child created by rape until birth and giving it up for adoption, and losing me, or keeping me and getting rid of an egg (that most likely isn't fertilized).

ECP = Emergency Contraceptive Pill = Morning After Pill.

I'm from Canada and I've heard both versions.

I leave the decision to the girl. If it affects me (financial, time, etc) thats when I start pushing my opinions out.

Ya I'm from Canada too, but I'd never heard ECP
thanks for the clarification.

So if you don't mind me asking, is there something behind your question or is it purely academic?

Somehow it came up in a conversation I had with my GF last night. We had talked about it before (so we already knew what our opinions on the subject are). I'm just interested to know what others here think about a situation like this.
