By planetary system I mean the planet and its moons. For Mars that would be Mars, Deimos, and Phobos.

I'd love to see humans in the Neptune system. I'd like to be one of them.

for the gas giants you mean just the moons, right? gravity is a bit tough to deal with on neptune proper

Well, you could have stations around the planet. I guess in thousands of years we might just use it for fuel and then we can colonize the little rock left over. ;)

If you mean by a civilized, intelligent, peaceful race then I'd choose Earth.

If you mean by Humans, why do we need to find a new place when we aren't done destroying this one yet?

Umm, temperature is the biggest deal here. Earth is obviously perfect for humans... so the next closest is logically the next best. Venus is too close to the sun (like inferred above). And hitting up URanus is not likely going to happen. ;)

that's the thing, there are supposedly lava flows on Venus that are so fast that it moves like water.. we can't explain what kind of flow that its, as we have no idea how it is created, or what might ever cause such a thing..
-source: NASA Chanel colloquium on the climate and lava flows of Venus.

so, i know it sounds crazy, but i think that temperatures are much more mild than we think, and that there is actually water that condensates under a heavy protective cloud that causes more radiation than we think to 'bounce off' instead of being absorbed into the atmosphere/increasing the planets temperature.

and it was called "UR-u-nus" later to stop the "ur-A-nus"/"your anus" jokes... 'cause you don't say "UR-u-nium" do you?
source: Ben Stine- on an old episode of 'Murphy Brown"

.. some times it disturbs me how much i remember..

+1 for uranus :)

maybe im still stuck in 4th grade but isnt the temperature on venus even higher than mercury cuz the heat gets trapped in or whatever

and what ever happened to planet x?

we don't know everything, just because they say a probe got a reading doesn't mean that it wasn't an anomalous one, or only indicative of the upper atmosphere *as our probe lost contact as it fell*

the physics of the situation have never been tested, there may well be information that we don't have that could explain the 'water like lava' as water itself... or i might be completely wrong;

but it's worth looking into.

If we colonized Mars, Deimos, and Phobos we could totally recreate the events of Doom and Doom II. :)

Not to mention the Sulfuric Acid rain.
