Valentine's Day is fine...there is at least some justification for it. Sweetest Day, on the other hand, is pure imagination. Nothing to it, and I wish it were abolished.

Ground Hog day was yesterday,sorry:)

:D hehe, st patricks day? little geek-on-leprechaun action? :Q

anyways i think what was said about women being expensive overall is very true. money-wise yes, but also time and energy-wise. having a good relationship is tons of work and frankly thats why i'm not in one right now, i am too involved with alot of things to be able to devote that much energy and time to a woman. not that i'm saying that in a negative way at all, i dont exactly want to be single forever ;) i'm just at a point where being independant and free is important to me.

i think valentines day is stupid, simply for the fact that it was invented by hallmark for the purpose of making money out of men's guilt, pride, embarrasment, and the relation of those 3 emotions.

HOWEVER, if you are in a relationship with someone you care about, it is always good to do things to show that you care about them, screw hallmark, if you are truly happy with your partner and into the relationship, you will keep them happy, just by doing the things that made them love you in the first place.

also i think the original tone of MichaelD's has more to do with being bad at expressing his emotions (like most men), and therefore seeing material gifts as the only VD option. perhaps his relationship with his wife is great, but he's just not the romantic type. or maybe his marriage is bad, i dont know ;)

Hmmmm, why is it "wasting money" if you make a little present to your SO? It's not like everyone here lives under the bridge.

I think I am a great girlfriend also...for all the same reasons that you are. And it isn't too much to ask to be remembered. It'll probably be the only day I get to really feel special and romantic like a girl (hopefully?).

My boyfriend is planning something...but I'm not sure he knows yet what he's going to do. Told me last night that there will be a party at his friends' house that night...so I'm assuming we'll be doing something alone in the early evening...and then heading over to that party. I guess it's cool...not really my idea of a great end to valentine's day..but I suppose as long as it's spent with him, doesn't matter what we do.

Well, what is YOUR idea of a great Valentine's Day? Dinner and a movie? Romantic evening? Tennis bracelet?

As we're on the topic, does anyone celebrate "Sweetest Day"?

NO!!! Sweetest Day is a newly invented holiday. It is even worse than Valentine's Day.

DOWN WITH INVENTED HOLIDAYS!!!!

Media sheep day. Slave to the corperate machine day. I need an excuse to buy my woman something day. I need more of an excuse to demand my man buy me something day.

Pfff... wuss. Christmas -> Anniversary -> V-Day -> Birthday. That's rough. Thankfully we usually do something personal for anniversary and skip v-day.
