Dug, a glance at the top ten Ot posts will tell us if you are out of bed "down under". You can run, but you can't hide;)

Why are you for it? you're one of the few that has a special title.

I post here because it's one of my favorite communities and I love it here not because of a custom title. It would be nice to see RossMAN with a joined date and that's it. Then the only way you're distinguished from other forum members is your join date and content of your posts.

I'm still the same RossMAN I was when I was made the transition from
Junior -> Senior -> Golden -> Platinum -> Diamond -> Elite -> Chief Ferengi -> Grand Nagus

You know... I was thinking about what you said here and I feel that I'm not the same guy I was when I joined here.

I was barely computer literate when I started lurking here. I've learned a lot here and now my "duties" here are miles from what I started doing... or even what I was like 6 months ago.

I know this is due to the changemy age difference and naturally my interests have changed a lot, but I thought I'd mention that I'm not the same guy I was 4 years ago ;)

i try to entertain, help a few people out in video, be as friendly as possible, and have some fun, plus i like posting a lot ;)

The trick is to keep that above the 'neffing' line, and i think most of the time i succeed...at least i hope so :(

They should eliminate visable user names and icons too, and ban signatures. make it completely random.

Until postcount somehow accurately reflects the quality of one's post, its not a comparable situation.

Well that's what I would have voted for :(

New poll needed, not new answer ;)

what spurred this on?

The mod-OP'ed thread about all this stuff, someone mentioned that if no one neffed, the quality of posts would go up.

eliminating post count is a VERY BAD idea

would be VERY hard to spot the newly registered free ipod guys

also eliminates a way to find the active users, people that posts here a lot

usually I gauge the poster's quality by a combination of join date and post count (and custom title of course)

take away these and u might as well take away usernames

Great point, they are usefull in the FS&T forums.

You should be known for the content of your posts, not your postcount or a title.

Exactly, where do we draw the line?

How about no posts PERIOD! Then we REALLY have everyone equal! Or no forum!

I think that the point here lies in equality of opportunity vs. equality of outcome.

Quality posts are not improved by postcount. Someone with any # of posts can make a great post, and vice versa.

no, it won't.

I don't see how equality is a valid argument either, can someone enlighten me? :/

Postcount? Sure, why not, I'm not paricularly attached to it, but keep join date I think. It give some idea about a member's age and maturity.

As for titles, I'm a little split. The postcount-generated titles I don't really care about, but the custom titles I think designate some actual contribution to the forums (except possibly in my case, I'm still unsure how they thought giving me a title was a good idea :p). But titles like NFS4's and your own title RossMAN and Brutuskend's title all help show that you've made contributions to this forum that deserve recognition. So while I think it might not be a bad idea for the postcount-generated titles to go away, I think that the custom ones should stay, but I might be a little biased there. ;)

Don't you think that the actual POSTS give the best indication of maturity?

Well, for people who are new to this site, postcount does provide some indication of which people have truly been around for a while... moreso than join date provides.

I suggest this: posts in OT and P&N do NOT count toward total posts.
Nef posts in other forums result in vacations

A little policing up front by the mods to make it clear that it'll be enforced, and all should go well.

Oh, and then create a homework help in math and physics forum, so I can get credit for those helpful posts that normally occur in OT :)

Well thought out as usual, Dr Pizza!

(P.S. -- don't count this post! )

Thus my suggestion to not include OT or P&N in postcount as the content, in general, is meaningless.
