This is a standard forum feature on dang near every forum for a reason. You want to know at a glance who the 'old-timers' are, who is influential, and who shold be taken with a grain of salt.

The system is perfect the way it is . . .

No, don't get rid of them... i think it definitly helps for the FS/T forum, and to spot a bad apple in hot deals

Titles:

How about all postcount-based titles including Lifer become just Member, but keeping custom titles like "Text enjoy" (and "Grand Nagus" ;) )

People like JokerSmoker who contribute above and beyond the norm could still be recognized, while neffers would get no reward for "postcount++" and such.

Postcount:

I find postcount useful along with join date when deciding whether to buy from someone in FS/FT who has low Heat. If blatant neffing is now cause for a vacation then postcount might be OK to keep, but the join date is probably good enough.

Why are you for it? you're one of the few that has a special title.

So it wouldn't bother you to ask the mods to change you to 'lifer'?

You have a point there but Heatware is another way to determine the worthyness of a trader.

No. It's what tells the n00bs from the 1337's, the Court Jesters from the Soundmen, the mods from the members.

I've got a good idea.

Could we convert to a /. type ranking system, with weighted postcounts and whatnot? Nef posts then wouldn't count against or for you.

I do think that people that post a lot should get recognition. It's not necessary, but it's a good indication of experience.

Why even put a joined date? Why even give people USERNAMES? It's all part of their identifiable information.

Ah, but there are lifers with no heat... they simply might not trade much, so they might appear less trustworthy than they are

Nope, people post to get seniority, people would get angry if they suddenly became equal with some 12 yr old who signed up on ATOT. This happened on the last boards I used to frequent and half the regulars stopped posting.

NO

this way, there is grace to newbie posters who post something incredibly stupid, and gives them a second chance.

I say wipe everything clean (post count, titles, and even all of the past posts made prior to the wipe).

I have like 10 Heat, only because I prefer to buy my stuff new after coupon/PM/rebate.

Personally Id get rid of postcount and titles as they are, and have titles be contingent not on how much you post, but on how long youve been there, with very long periods between.

That would help in FS/T, would still give people that certain amount of "identity", and reduce the need for padding postcount.
