Poll: Muslims have highest Obama approval; Mormons lowest

Even if mormons USED to engage in polygamy, they didn't dress their cover their wives up or make them walk behind them in some of the hottest climates on Earth. If you have reasonable arguments about Islam is more progressive than American religions, I'd be happy to hear it.

These women used to get pretty hot in their Texas compound

I've seen Mormon women dressed the same just lately.

Mormons got their fundies too

edit- oh and just for the hell of it, I live in the only place in North America where polygamy is legal 😉

Another shining example of all you liberal douch bags crying Bigot, when you yourselves are all bigots.

We can be bigoted against disgusting tax free bigoted hate filled organizations that masquerade around as chapels of Gods love..

you people are a joke to your own mirrors and that is why you try to control others.. just leave people alone or there will obviously be a rapture.. durr.. fuck with people long enough they gonna call your card

Why would anyone be surprised at this?

The Mormons are the most "right-wing conservative" group in the USA. Add to that their disdain for black folks...and Obama couldn't win their favor if the angel Moroni brought him to them personally...

I was going to say this. You beat me to it.

I think you're confusing Mormons with those who currently practice polygamy. The groups you're thinking of (which the women pictured in your post are a part) left the LDS Church 100+ years ago to form their own churches. These groups reside in Texas, southern Utah, Colorado, and Arizona. Just wanted to clarify that as it's a common misconception.

Nope, I know not all Mormons practice this way, just some. And they reside in a lot more places then those 4 states you mention.

Well, the nickname "Mormon" isn't really appropriate with any of the groups besides The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It would be like referring to Baptists as Catholics since they broke off from the Catholic Church to form their own denomination.

You're right about the locations. I should have said they 'generally' live in those four places.

They are the "true" Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joseph Smith revealed that god had many spirit wives on Kolob and humans were to do the same. When the US government threatened to not allow Utah's statehood because of polygamy the current prophet, Willford Woodruff, signed "The Manifesto" which banned plural marriage. Only because of this "revelation" was the church allowed to exist.

So, when one considers that god has many wives and wants man to do the same, since the church turned it's back on this means it is no longer the true church -- which was the whole reason it was formed to begin with since god told Joseph Smith no other Christian churches were getting it right.

And they would say they are the true Mormons right? 😉

Anyways, the point I was trying to make is that there are American religions that follow dress codes. Just like some Muslims do. ( The only American religions I can think of are Mormons and some of those rattlesnake handlers and such)
I can look out my window and see a Muslim woman dressed from head to toe in black talking to a Muslim woman dressed very modern.

Well I don't think the term "Mormon" specifically connotes the true church. Like whoever wears that badge is the one. It was a nickname given to members of the church back in the 1800s by antagonists but still used today because it is a readily recognized name. My point in saying it should be used for the LDS church only is mainly to avoid confusion over grouping all the off-shoots of the LDS church under one name. There are very different beliefs amongst those churches and the LDS church. Not very accurate to group them all under one name.

Regarding dress codes, you're right that there are relatively few religions with dress codes. A few others are the Amish and the Hasidic Jews.

I need to clarify.. the only religions I can think of that can be called American would be the Mormons and the rattlesnake handlers (and they are probably an offshoot of Baptists)

Mormons- entirely made up in the US.

Ah, gotcha. That makes sense. I think the Jehovah's Witness church is also American as well as the Seventh Day Adventists. The "J-Dubs" have a dress code too IIRC.

He claims to only be Canadian, not Muslim.

The differences between the LDS and sects like the FLDS seems to be exactly analogous to normal Muslims vs fundamentalist Muslims... The extremist sects follow the original religions more faithfully.

Are you suggesting Muslim opinion is more important?

And 50% of Catholics is pretty bad for a Democrat.

Are you suggesting it's less important?

I think most religions opinion is nonsense, but one group has more political strength than the other.

Now how about you answer the question instead of deflecting?

*Crickets*

People, this is how you deflect. Learn from jpeyton.

Like the Protestant religions and the Catholic church? Do you think we should just group all of them as Catholics and fundamentalist Catholics?

So, Muslims are in favor of a fair Christian President, compared to an angry mob of haters on the other side. That makes him 'on the side of Muslim extremists'.

Reminds me of the angry mob saying that anyone against segregation was 'on the side of the blacks (not their word) at war with the whites'.

The enemy is the fear, xenophobia, hate, bigotry, mob mentality, ignorance.

It seems best to judge Obama on his actions rather than what any particular group thinks of him. Seems a better metric of performance to me.
