I love it when partisan hackery spills over to OT.

I would bet not only does Mel Gibson hate the jews... but he really believes that they are the tools of Satan, who killed christ, and bring war and hatred to the world.

He is a bible-thumping nut you realize?

That's ridiculous....why would he say stuff about Jews when he was being arrested for DUI. Sounds like someone is still POed about the Passion movie... I wish they would just drop it. It's entertainment, not documentary.

It's in the original police report.

None of you seem to be aware that Mel Gibson's father is an anti-semite. He claims that the holocaust never happened.

I don't doubt that after growing up in a house with that guy, he'd be anti-semetic in some way. Unfortunately, being anti-semetic in Hollywood does not make you money so I wouldn't be surprised if he's just hid it for a long time.

He's antisemetic. Why do people have a hard time believing this? Just take the words from his mouth at face value.

None of the above until I see the real police report...

I cannot believe TMZ.com, which is owned by CNN parent company Time Warner, would put a fake police report on their site and not worry about being sued big for libel.

That's my thought as well. Also, his public apology not only doesn't refute these allegations, it acknowledges he did and said inappropriate things when arrested. Although the jury is still out, I tend to believe the report is genuine.

It's worth keeping in mind that Mel Gibson's father is a Holocaust denier - I guess in this case the apple didn't fall far from the tree. I don't really think that, if he really said these things, one can credibly deny his anti-Semitism. I might say some dumb things while I'm drunk, but it would never in my wildest dreams occur to me to start making anti-Semitic rants. It certainly paints the arguably anti-Semitic content in The Passion of the Christ in a whole new light.

I have defended him in the past because I believed that it was his father that believed this stuff, not him. In this incident, I'd have to say I blame him. I think it's pretty clear he believes this stuff.

Honestly, who really cares what he believes?

He can jump up and down in the middle of downtown Beverly Hills and scream, "I hate jews!" for all I care. I'll still watch nearly any movie he's associated with.

I don't think your views are in the mainstream in that respect, but the bigger issue from Mel's standpoint may be the Hollywood infrastructure. Hollywood is largely run by Jewish men, and in spite of Mel's vast wealth, he simply can't get anything done if the powers that be are resolved to lock him out. I guess the true test will be Apolyptico, which seems desperately uncommercial anyway, and doesn't have the benefit of, like The Passion of the Christ, appealing to Christians worldwide. He may have a hard time even getting distribution at this point (although he may already have a distribution contract, the film is still in post-production, and I have to believe the distributor retains the right to shelve it if they don't like the finished product).

I agree. I think he will lose fans, Hollywood comradery, and a lot of respect for this. The only pity I have for him in this is that he is an alcoholic and he fell off the wagon.

Yeah, I see it the same way. I think his alcoholism is his personal situation, and it's tough to have one's personal foibles become public like that. That being said, presumably none of this would be in the public eye if he had sat at home having a drunk, rather than driving his Lexus 87 in a 45-MPH zone with an open bottle of tequila in the passenger's seat.
