Disclaimer: I am a conservative that has been listening to NPR for a couple of months. I only listen to it on the radio and I do not visit their site (unless linked to here or something).

I would say that it is slightly center-left. It is not conservative, but it is not nearly as left wing as NBC or CNN, from what I have heard. I am actually planning on changing the time I leave for work so I can listen to the Morning Edition during my commute. It is the only news station that I like (including TV and other radio stations).

I don't think NPR has any clear political agenda, unlike places like Fox News in toto or the opinion programs on MSNBC.

I find a great many of their shows have limited bias in one direction or the other. A few lean a little off center. Guess I can't vote in this here poll.

NPR is largely neutral. I can detect bias in one direction or other for individual programs, not for the outlet as a whole. In general, NPR is a lot more in depth on the issues. They are less in the mold of soundbiting everything as the rest of the MSM. I think NPR should basically be a go to source for everyone. They aren't perfect, but they're loads better than the rest.

ding ding ding, I think we have a winner.

NPR is basically non biased and too much of the rest of our media is biased, for a variety of reasons. Fox is biased at the whim of its owner Rupert Murdock, whose whim is law. Most of the rest of the US media is biased because they have something to sell and fear offending their advertisers.

And NPR would be far more free in their own journalist honesty if they did not realize if they say the government that funds them wears no clothes, that same government that partially funds them can cut them off.

To some extent the only place to get unbiased news is on the internet, but the problem there is that its like trying to refine gold from Ocean water, the truth is there but you have to wade through much biased bullshit from all sides, that its somewhat a fools game of looking for a needle in a haystack.

And just when people like me think we can beat that fools game with a powerful electromagnet that will attract needles and not straws, we find out that does not work because the truth is non magnetic.

This. I think they get unfairly stereotyped as "liburul medier" because they do pieces on authors, poetry, and classical/jazz music.

Retarded pohl is retarded.

I am a liberal conservative and they seem neutral. Basically they report news and have interesting lives and culture on shows.

LOL yeah the types who worship not knowing (Palin devotees) will think a high class show like NPR is liberal.

2. NPR is definitely liberal.

However you have to keep one thing in mind. NPR is mainly a news source while FOX and MSNBC are dominated by agenda driving opinion shows. So while it is very easy to see bias on an opinion show it is much harder to see bias on a news only show.

The best way to spot bias in news coverage is to look at the stories that they choose to cover or not cover.

Also, don't forget the fact that reports are generally liberal and that reporters who would go to work for a non-profit 'public' radio network are most likely going to be even more liberal than reporters in general.

When you have a group of liberals trying to decide what is and what isn't important and worth taking about you are going to end up with a liberal bias no matter how hard you try to avoid it.

BTW: perfect example of bias in media coverage is the fact that the Washington Post completely ignored the story about the new black panthers blocking the polling place and then the Obama administrations decision to not prosecute them for their actions.

They're definitely center-left, but not blatantly so like MSNBC. They're quite moderate overall.
