I've took a good look over the forums and I cannot deny that there has been more problems situated with ATi products than Nvidia.

And just because I've went from a GF4 to a 9800 perfectly and without issue, does not discount for incompatibility issues with many other users.

So here's a poll. Judging only on the users history and that who're currently using nvidia's or ati's product, which one gave them more troubles.

You need to look a little closer in the motherboard forum:) What makes you think this won't erupt into the typical ATI vs NVidia flamefest? IMHO, they need the same rule in Video for these ATI vs Nvidia threads as they have for the Intel vs AMD threads.

Then I'll report the thread to the mods ASAP if a flame fest does come about.

I owned a GF3 and GF4 before my 9800NP (flashed to pro now). The Nvidia cards both worked nearly flawless. My 9800 gave me a few problems in my old motherboard (Asus P4Pe) but it's been absolutely perfect in my new motherboard (Abit IC7-MAX3). Even overclocked up past what the 9800XT scores in most benchmarks.

In my opinion the ATI cards sometimes take more effort than the Nvidia cards but I think the performance advantage (at least currently) is worth it.

They both have their flaws from the simplest things such as AGP not running at full data rate for compatibility to the most annoying driver problems.

Since the first Radeon's appeared, ATI's drivers have gotten a lot more solid compared to the Rage days.

Tons of ATI problems for me.. a lot of my games didn't work properly with ATI 9700Pro(I have 30+ games), tried multiple driver sets...
finally gave up and got a 5900... no problems yet

It's like motherboard are now...every now and then you get a dud, and there are manufacturers to watch out for. I've had no problems I can trace to ATi or NVidia. I have had some I could trace to the manufacturer's QC department.
Between ATi and Newegg RMAs, it all has worked out.

I had experience with TNT1, TNT2 M64, GeForce1, Geforce2MX, ATI Radeon 7500, ATI 9700 pro (using). Never had problems with all of them. Zero. Nada.

i've delt with onboard rage, tnt2, gf4mx440, gf3 ti200, radeon 8500, fx5600, and radeon 9500...no problems here. both companies have evolved enough that incompatabilities are very rare.

my first experience with nvidia was horrible ,every few hours I would get a crash or reboot with a driver error message ,my next nvidia card was better but still had crashes every now and then in some games, but new drivers and patches did help some but didn't help most of the problems. when upgraded to my ati 9800 pro I've had few crashes or minor glitches with certain games but with new drivers and or game patches almost all problems are fixed with the exception of a couple of games like halo which aa or other glitches that doesn't work on any video card

Call of Duty crashes about every 20 mins into it. Other then that, no probs on my 9800 Pro. Hadn't had any probs with S3 Virge (Other than bad performace), RIVA TNT, TNT2 Ultra, GeForce 2 Pro, and my current 9800 Pro.

It might be the game too, that is crashing. Medal of honor has crashed on me with both both ATi and nVIDIA cards. That game crashes a lot. Happened to me about 5 times. RTCW has crashed on me once on nVIdIA. Day of Defeat has crashed on me once or twice on 3dfx and nVIDIA. It might not be the cards but the games instead. These are random crashes by the way, very distant from each other. And I don't play many D3D gamesl, so I don't know if it just OpenGL. Unreal II hasn't crashed on me yet, but I haven't played it much yet.

Compatability issues from my experience. Never any problem installing or updating drivers from TNT2 M64, Geforce2 MX, 8500, 4600, 5900. 8500 experienced some missing textures in MOH in one driver issue, but was quickly fix next driver. 4600, experienced messed up polygon rendering in a cut scene of mafia demo, that only existed in beginning cutscene and then cleared up late in that same cutscene. As far as compatability from both cards. My experience was great. I guess it is a lottery when you buy a card from either brand. Although from the problems posted here, there are more Radeon problems, but then again, there are twice as many Radeon owners. So I guess from that, compatability would be about the same. But from some reviews that I've read, Radeon refused to play more games properly than nVIDIA.

note: this was also posted in another thread, but I reposted here, because this area better addresses the issue.

I`ve had TNT,GF2 MX,GF2 Ti,3DFX, etc and never had any problems,I did have a problem when my ram decided to go faulty sametime I updated my ATi drivers but you can`t blame ATi for that(just bad timing :p ).My current ATI card and drivers have been solid so I`m another guy with no problems.

I think the poll, so far, accurately depicts in what I see on the forum. With just about half who never had any problems, which is logical and predictable.

But from the percentage of people who did have problems, they've experienced them with ATI. Factors could vary widely. And I'm pretty sure we can rule out that Nvidia detonators, "purposely prohibit functionality of the Ati cats" .

Had a 9600 Pro for a week and it felt like my system could crash at any minute, but I returned it when the 5900NUs hit $200 and haven't had any problems.

EDIT: I did have a PCI Radeon 7200 SDR that was rock solid for 2 years + and then a GF4 Ti4600 that died 5 months after I bought it, so I've ad problems with both.

I think a lot of people are responding based on driver issues, and ATi has had quite a few issues with very high profile games this year that a lot of people play(CounterStrike, Call of Duty etc). nVidia hasn't been flawless there with high profile titles either, but the extent of their problems has been quite a bit more mild(missing texture in BF1942, shadows hosed in RoN).

Great, take an issue that's been discussed and flamed over many times, then try and disguise it behind a poll. Pointless.

No flames started yet, except the one you're trying to start. This is a consolidation or a consensus.

What is your input on the matter?

Games that are coming out now where written when Nvidia was dominant so they often times arent tested much on the 9700/9800pro or latest catalysts. Like Call of Duty for instance it crashed on most ATi cards with older Catalysts. Thats why ATi is getting higher numbers right now, since the 9700/9800pro is the dominant card now the games coming out in the next year or so will be biases towards ATi.

Yeah, falling off topic all ready. Just say what issues you have, don't make guess's.
