My CPU, Motherboard and RAM were purchased the same year Vista came out. 2005 maybe? My GPU is only a couple years old. Paid $170 for it (3870) if that helps date it.
the computer i game on has an opteron 165 (nearly 4 years old) with similar vintage board and ram. video card is a 4870 from earlier this year, along with a new corsair power supply to run it. case is a p180.
the computer i'm typing on has a c2q 8200 from about a year ago with crappy ECS board from the fry's combo (i'd switch them but i do video conversion on this one and the power draw is probably lower at idle, and the board sucks). it's got a no-name brown box power supply from several years back that jonnyguru rated quite highly. it's got a 7300LE video card because the onboard graphics of the previous motherboard sucked nuts. case is a generic antec style minitower. it'll get moved into the P180 whenever i get around to building a new comp (already have a P183 for the new stuff).
monitor for both is a dell 2005. i just switch inputs back and forth as needed. kvm for the mouse and keyboard.
i bet less than 10 people actually read this. i'm such a nef.
I still use the first case I got with my first computer I built 6-7 years ago. This Coolermaster aluminum case was expensive but well worth it as I really like its simple brushed aluminum look. Everything else changes every couple years though.
Almost exactly 2 years. Every 2-3 years I suddenly become interested computer hardware and build a new PC, then lose all interest in computer parts for 2 years.
CPU/Motherboard--4-5 years old, getting a little angsty about it, half expect the Mobo to pack it in someday. Have plans to Upgrade in Spring.
Vid card---4 months
Power Supply---2 months
Ram-Just over 1 year
HDs vary, a few years older than CPU/Mobo to about 1 year newer
Case Approx 7 years
Monitor 8-10 years(lost track)
About 4 years now. I'm thinking that it's time for an upgrade. This one still works well enough that I'll probably connect it to my TV and use it to stream netflix and hulu.
i7 CPU, intel dx58so mobo, 6gb corsair ram, coolermaster case, ocz ssd, all from this year. Evga gtx280 and antec power supply from 2008. I'm good for another year or so. Also still running 32 bit vista (I know I can only use 3gb of my ram).
An aggregate of parts of differing ages.
The case is 6 years old, (built in 2003) the mobo and processor were upgraded in 2005, (still socket 478 p4) the video card (AGP) was replaced at the same time. The floppy drive is about 12 years old as is the zip 250 drive.
It's definitely time for a rebuild, but don't really want to dump $800-$1000 into doing it right.
