120+ avalon (could have gone faster... but i got scared) not the safest "race" car if you know what i mean. steering wheel feels light as a feather past 100. my bro did push 130 before, i give him props for guts.

130 + downhill accrd cp v6

140 mph Lexus (LS430) it's a sign not to push the car any harder when u hear a slight rattling :)

on a 23 mile-long stretch of deserted 4 lane highway in the middle of nowhere, daytime, with plenty of visibility to either side of the road, 141 in a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE. I did it once. Scared the fsck outta me, now about 80 is my top speed.. Had to do it once tho. v-6 engine was darn near redline and the sound of the rushing air was deafening.

oh, and as to the 200mph questions...i downloaded a movie from consumptionjunction.com this guy took on a bike with a video camera on the gas tank so you could see the speedo. it hit at least 180.

Big difference between 180 and 200 though. On a closed run, hit 197, but was never able to get that 3 mph out of my bike

yeah, i was able to cross 140 on both bikes, no problem. hell, i could break 120 on the on-ramp. but going from 145 to 150 took a looooooooong time...or at least it seemed like it, with the road going by that fast ;)

120 on I-5

after getting into this accident with my car I STRONGLY URGE YOU to NOT DRIVE TOO FAST. I learned it the hard way. I hit a piece of firewood on the freeway at around 80mph and my front left rim is smashed, my rear left rim bent and front left suspension and/or the frame has probably been damaged. a really bad ending after a wonderful northwestern US trip :(

there weren't any cars around but i couldn't avoid it.

Does anyone think that a few of these claims simply can't be true, or else the speedo was way off at such a high speed (often true)?
Some have claimed speeds on their assumed stock cars to be much higher than Motor Trend, et al were able to achieve.
Not talking about bikes...

The highest speed limit on Hawaii seems to be 45 miles per hour...but everyone ignores it. So we go around 70 miles per hour :(

This thread is rather insightful about human nature. Speeds over 80mph are illegal just about anywhere, yet 90% of pepole have driven above 80mph at least one point in their lives. Makes you wonder what is the purpose of law when it simply it cannot control what humans really want to do, which in this case is speed.

People like to speed, people abhor speeding tickets, people spend money figuring out how to get out of paying fines and people buy radar detection equipment and yet we STILL can't get rid of 55mph limits in a bunch of places. It's another irony of life.
