Would need a change to the FuseTalk software (translation: it won't be happening). We've got heatware. Use it wisely, and you (and the rest of us alike) will see its value increase. There is a lot of burden placed on the individual users to use common sense. We've got the tools, just so many fail to consistently use them. All sorts of conventions that people can choose (or be forced) to adopt (some already have) such as: Heatware links in their sig that show the number of positive, neutral, negative evals, Locations in their sig, etc.
The signature has tremendous potential if the traders come together and use it.
I agree, heatware is a much better solution and it doesn't require any work on the part of Zuni, but there seems to be a concern among the FS/FTers about doing away with postcount
etc., so I thought that maybe they were looking for an 'internal' (to AnandTech) solution.
In order to see postcount become something actually meaningful, I think that some system needs to be put into place by which posts are 'judged' by the software as worthy or not.
Semi-interesting idea, but again, it would mean a change in the Fusetalk software. Not to mention the extra load that "might" be placed on the servers to adequately screen one-line posts.[/quote]
I don't know, it doesn't seem to me like this would be THAT hard, given everything else that Fusetalk seems to take care of already! Just an IF statement somewhere. And it doesn't need to worry about being complicated by ... oh damnit, I keep coming up with solutions, but then I keep coming up with ways that people would undoubtedly get around them. :|
I was going to say, that it wouldn't need to worry about editing or anything, it would only count on the initial post, and if it was later edited to more than one line, the software wouldn't have to worry about it. Conversely, if the initial post is longer than two lines, and then it's edited to less than one, it would remain on the postcount. But then we would have people posting two-line posts, and then directly afterwards editing them :|
Well, I don't know how much logging already takes place, and this is adding much to the complexity of the software, but maybe if somebody edits their messages within a minute after posting them, a Mod is alerted and if a pattern is discerned, then they're warned/banned?

This is a really tough situation with which to deal, and I'm just happy that I'm not Anand or Zuni and have to worry about this as anything more than a frivolous activity. Hopefully they can find a solution that will be satisfactory and will allow them to keep the Forums up and free. I frankly don't know if easy solutions exist, as the boards have probably gotten bigger than they've never anticipated.
