Of course, if you do that, you increase the risk that you will accumulate static electricity and may spark the gas fumes when you reach for the nozzle.
Random fact: It's illegal here now to have one of those locking pump handles so you can walk away while it's filling. You either hold it open, or it's off. I guess too many people drove away on an open nozzled pump.
