It's hard to watch the pump, if you decide to get back in while it's filling.

Of course, if you do that, you increase the risk that you will accumulate static electricity and may spark the gas fumes when you reach for the nozzle.

Random fact: It's illegal here now to have one of those locking pump handles so you can walk away while it's filling. You either hold it open, or it's off. I guess too many people drove away on an open nozzled pump.

it doesn't matter which side its on, as long as it would be on the same side for ALL cars....its retarded that it varies from car to car....pick a side and stay with it

I don't care what side it's on. But Passenger side would be nice so you don't have to worry about whacking your door on the cement pillars when you get out to get gas. My 2 cars have it on the passenger side and our SUV has it on the drivers side.

Makes no difference

Screw what side its on. Drivers side is ok but center rear is the best. Make that liscense plate at least contribute something to the looks of the car. Besides the ones under the plate leak the most gas and piss off the tree huggers.

Want to complain about something? How about the tiny nozzles and slow pumps that make you waste time and stand in the wind and cold to fill up. Anybody remember BEFORE unleaded gas?? Regular size hoses were like a pit stop at Indy? :D

Just stick your gas cap in the handle so you don't have to hold it and can set in your car.

BUT women cause 80% of gas station fires because for some reason they don't close their door when they get out of the car (and therefore they discharge their static electricity near the gas tank rather than the door).

Pull in on the other side?

3 cars. Two have it on the passenger (right) side in the rear (924S and Mark VIII). The other has it on the passenger (right) side but in the front and the front trunk must be open for the fuel tank to be accessible (914 2.0). I never worry about it. I'll back into an open pump no problem so it doesn't make much difference to me which side it's on.

what difference does it make to the stations? both sides of a pump come out of the same tank. it's not like one side is going to get empty. i guess the credit card thing could wear out. ;)

I have autos with FF on diff sides, it makes me crazy
FORD does this, and so do other Manufacturers. It's on my Focus' Passenger side. Doesn't matter to me either way.

Yeah, but they double the number of cars they can service by using both sides. But as someone else pointed out, you can always enter the station from the other side.

It's not retarded. Think about it. Picture a single gas pump with 2 nozzles, 1 on each side. If fuel filler doors were on the same side for every car, you'd have to turn your car around just to use the other side of the pump because there's usually only one direction you were heading when you went into the station. Now picture multiple cars at a gas station and everyone's trying to get their car into position.

I don't think so.

My Camry is on the drivers side and my g/f's Jetta is on the passenger side. Her old Cavalier was on the passenger side too so things get a little confusing some times. As to putting it behind the license plate, not everybody can find it back there. My g/f was driving her dad's Impala SS (why he let her drive a V8 is beyond me) and she had to fill it up with gas. She couldn't figure it out so she asked her friend for help finding it but they were helpless. Finally they saw somebody else with it behind the license plate but that was like 15 minutes later. Some people shouldn't be able to drive... :)

I don't care. Opposite the side the exhaust is on, which is how it is in most cars.

Should be on the passenger's side. You don't have to worry about opening your door into a giant cement pillar every time you get out of the car at the gas station.
