For those who are for it, ask yourself this:

When your child gets to be a teenager/adolescent (a very influencable age) would you want them to spend the night a friend's house who's parents are gay?

Do you think that may have an impact on the lifestyle your child may choose?

I think Shielding children children from reality is wrong. Also would let your children go to a law abiding Gay couples house or a House with a straight couple who are no stranger to domestic violence?

I would pick the Gay couple myself.

The only reason a child would get freaked out by gay people is because his/her parents are visibally freak out in front of said child. Children are in a tabula rasa state and will more than likely follow the beliefs that their parents hold.

I'm against.

Now hold on. I think them there gays and lesbians should get equal treatment for jobs, tax benefits and so forth. But I'm against them marrying. I think they should invent a new license ...something like "Unions For Ambiguous and Gays Outside Traditions" that allows them the benefits of heterosexuals but I do not think the term "marriage" should be polluted because it comes from a religious sense.

I'm not a homophobe and I've met some gay people before and they aren't all that different of people--they still contribute to society in some ways. But I just think that marriage should be respected as a holy thing in nature. Then again come to think of it, divorce has ruined marriage too. Why not let everyone get married.

They should invent a sort of new marriage license that can only be given by a religious faction, and that can't be broken (divorce). That would be nice for those who don't want the term to lose its value and merit IN THEIR VIEW.

Baby steps. No chance in hell a "union" will be easier to get done across the board than simply letting the marry during the interim. A marriage is defined as two things coming together. It could be two men, a cpu and its socket, or whatever.

If you need the government to establish a type of marriage that you can't break, you have a problem. If it means so much to you, simply stay together; you can keep the value and merit of marriage FOR YOURSELF.

Who cares what other people are doing with their marriage? Let gays marry, let people divorce, who cares. It doesn't affect me and if it affects how sincere YOUR marriage is, that's a personal problem...

I vote OP for ban!

Was it necessary to have two posts in OT on this same issue?

I have enough to do tending to my own relationship I would never dare to presume I have some sort of right to legislate the private lives of other consenting adults.

I wouldn't rely on it, and I hope to God others would not rely on it to enforce the marriage. That is not what I meant. It should just be there as a symbol of your dedication.

Its like Cadillac Escalades...who wants to drive one now since all those crack dealing, gun-toting rappers have them? The meaning is ruined.

Heh. Quite an analogy.

Driving a Cadillac Escalade is, for the most part, a display of conspicuous consumption. It is something you drive TO GET A REACTION from passers-by.

If you're married because of what other people think of you, get a reality check!

no because as a parent its my job to help my children understand the world and the different kinds of people in it. Shelter my child only will make the subject taboo which is ridiculous.

"It is something you drive TO GET A REACTION from passers-by."

Its not a parallel analogy just a generic one.

I don't think you "GET A REACTION" from people in that kind of vehicle btw, nor do people driving one expect it I'd think. I mean, do you suddenly "REACT" when you see one? No :p

Back to what I said, it is just an extra way to show your love for someone in my opinion. If you are so strong in belief that "you must suffer if you need that/you have a bigger problem if you depend on it" then no one would get married at all because the same argument could be said against marriage.....and they'd all be common law aka fvck buddies or something. I just thought it would be nice to have an outlet for religious folk wanting to express their true feelings toward their soulmate that marriage no longer can, and you go and take it to be something it is not.

No but you buy an Escalade so that people will say OOH AN ESCALADE HE MUST BE RICH or WOW NICE CAR or whatever. Conspicuous consumption...

Although I'm on the same side you are, you, obviously, do not know how to read. I never said I agreed with those idiotic argument. I was just pointing out how stupid some people are. My point was that no one has come up with a valid argument against Gay's right to get married. Not 1, yet they persist.
