If i remember correctly, its an American company who used Lamborghini engines, and the Vector W12 looked like an ugly Diablo, and had the same specs, and even the same price, since it was basically a Diablo with an ugly body.... They were produced, its not a concept car.

I'm pretty sure they used Chevy V-8's and V-10's.

Ahh, but the history is much longer. The Vector theoretically was to be a production car, but it was never actually produced. The concept originated in the mid-70s, and there were a handful of running prototypes and a promise to create the world's fastest car (sound familiar?). The engine was, as I recall, a small-block Chevy with twin turbochargers. The car had, of all things, a GM HydraMatic three-speed transmission, with the shifter integrated into the driver's door. The car's designer hyped it for something like 20 years but never managed to take it into production.

Ahh yeah, BUT then they wanted to build the Vector M12, it was 1991 i think. They actually build a few ugly ones, and that one used the Countach/Diablo engine.

Also, there is a difference between souped up Corvettes/Vipers and real stock cars. The Sledgehammer Corvette might set the "speed record", but understand that this is all basically Propaganda. To reach such speeds on a Venom Viper or Sledgehammer Vette is near suicide. The cars were not designed for this; aftermarketers simply added more air and fuel to claim numbers which normal driver would never reach. The Sledgehammer Vette reached that speed only once, and prolly half of the engine needed rebuilding after that, also the driver prolly had a roll cage/suit and was just blasting in a straight line, a road turn would have flipped that little Vette like a leaf.

Companies like Ferrari Lamborghini and Bugatti don?t go for that. You can actually sit into a Murcelagro, F50 or EB-110 and easily reach 200+ mph speeds on an autobahn, without any protective gear, and cruise for miles listening to music while doing it...

The Veyron is still ugly. :p

The interior is too vintage for my tastes, and I hate wood trims.

I hate that ugly looking grill on it as well, as are the wheels.

I would build my own car, and it would be better than any of those cars on the list. PM me if you don't agree.

The difference is, the McLaren actually exists, whereas the Veyron is to this point a paper tiger. The McLaren is perhaps the most focused automotive design of all time, and still the best-performing street-legal car on earth six years after its creation.

Well i guess I"d take this one

Porsche 962 (street legal)

WOW! i'm surprised not to see more Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches desired. Yes, the McLaren F1, Bugatti Veyron and EB 110, Benz CLK-GTR, Zonda C12, and others go beyond 220 mph and have insane 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. and i also know the starter of this thread has geared it toward speed specifically. but has anyone noticed the trend of these other companies? its as though their only goal is to put out a supercar that tops everything else on the road...and they may even succeed in doing so. but how many other successful cars have they built and become a hit around the world? sure all of these companies have rich racing backgrounds and won many titles in LeMans, F1, and other circuits, but none have been as successful both on and off the track as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. and in doing so, these 3 automobile makers have managed to make the most beautiful and inspiring sports cars ever.

i would have to say that if i could have any one of the vehicles aforementioned in this thread, it would be the Lamborghini Diablo 6.0. i have never seen a more beautiful car in my life. and the fact that its top end is slower than many other cars is fine with me...i'm happy with 205mph. after all, Lamborghini's goal was not to create the fastest, most powerful car in the world. his goal was to create a beast and disguise it in a sleek, gorgeous skin, and that's exactly what he did. sure the McLaren F1, the Veyron, Koenigsigg, and many other supercars will beat the Diablo top end, 0-60, and 1/4 mile. but who's going to turn more heads? the Diablo 6.0 without a doubt...

although i would for sure pick the Diablo 6.0 first, the Ferrari 360 Modena makes it a tough choice. just as the Diablo 6.0 (but not quite as sexy), this car's lines and curves make it one of the most beautiful sports cars in the world. i'd take either a berlinetta or a spider...they are equally beautiful. once again, this is a car that will turn more heads than a McLaren and the like.

and finally, a car that's right up there with the Diablo and the Modena is the Porsche Turbo. sure Porsche's GT1 and GT2 are are quicker around the track, but once again it boils down to beauty IMHO. the lines and curves are much more refined and sleek on the Turbo. it is the only car that is simly referred to as "the Turbo." i know the GT2 looks almost identical, but there are a few subtle differences between the two, and those are what make the Turbo my choice as far as looks go. if the Diablo and the Modena weren't so outrageous, i'd be tempted to say that the 911 Turbo is the most beautiful sports car i've ever seen. by the way, i test drove a Turbo today...unbelieveably fast. @ 100mph i was still in third gear, and nowhere near the redline. unfortunately, i didn't get a chance to take it above 120mph...i probably would have wrapped it around a telephone pole or something anyways. although i'd rather have a rwd car, the 4wd was nice. it handled like it was on rails. they had a GT2 on the lot too, but the owner wouldn't let us take it for a spin...i dont blame him :D. anyways, i hope to be getting one of these around graduation, but we'll see...

so as you can see, with me its not just about performance and who's at the top in every aspect, but rather its about beauty also. i havent disregarded performance by any means...after all, the Diablo, the Modena, and the 911 Turbo can outperform 99.9% of the cars on the road. but they do it in style, with grace and beauty unmatched by any other supercar.

QuixFire is the only person here with any tastes at all...
try this
1969 Ferrari DINO 246 GT
linky

the most beautiful new car i know of is the Ferrari 456M, excellent proportions, styling.

the fastest car around.....well soon it will be the Veyron 16/4 (good lord its ugly though), though right now the fastest STOCK car is the McLaren F1, or maybe the MB CLK-GTR, not sure.

although, right now i would take anything that doesnt: leak oil, have broken seat belts, power windows that dont work, crappy AC, ugly styling, now power, and feel like i'm driving a sponge.
maybe a nice S2000, or a MR2 Spyder, or maybe even Boxster.

I would've said the Veyron but, like others here, I don't consider it a real car...so I just picked the F1. I'd love to see a Veyron in action someday though.
