Considering Dell is offering up to 23.5% off LCD's, do you own one or plan on buying one soon?

I do not have one because I have 2 small children and I am always washing little finger prints off the monitor. I think they would kill one if they had it and I do not have a private office... yet. 🙂

My roommate played Earth & Beyond on my 1900FP using his P4/2.4 with GF Ti4200 (DVI) and there was absolutely no ghosting at all. He ordered his own 1900FP, once he receives it he'll probably test some FPS games as well.

I'm using analog for the time being and for regular non-gaming use it looks GREAT.

Ghosting seems to be a very subjective matter. Some see it - others don't. It seems darker games tend to have the most visible ghosting.
 
In my new company all trader (250 of them) all have a setup with a quad video card and 4 17 inch lcds each 😱
It is reall cool
the problem (price of each setup (video card and monitors) : about 4 to 5 thousand dollars 🙁

i only had a 17, dell ultra sharp, sold it on fs/ft, it lost it's novilty. i miss the deskspace that my new monitor takes up, but playing cs with a 21" dell p1110 is a huge difference from that 17" lcd... if i didn't game as much as i do i would've kept it 😱

wtf kind of lcds and video cards are they using?

at work here, they run appian jeronimo (sp) pro cards (thats a dual head video card) and 4 19" lcds, those setups didn't cost more than 3k, actually i think the last time they bought one it was more around 2,500
 
I'm using a 15" Dell LCD at work, and after a couple of weeks its annoying as hell. The ghosting is *terrible*. Definately not subjective with this model.

Because I read fast (and skim read) I'm used to flying through a long document while I scroll down, but its totally not possible with this monitor - the texts just blurs too much. Sadly, I can't get rid of it, because I don't really have enough desk space for a decent CRT, and with all the badly shielded power cables &c around me, when we tried a CRT the picture was totally screwed up!

Still, in a couple of years LCDs will definately be the way to go. But i'm keeping my CRT at home, until then.
 
No. Several reasons:
1) I switch resolutions a lot for various programs. LCDs just cannot display different resolutions well.
2) Size matters. There is nothing like being emersed in a game/movie. Going backwards from a 22" (21" visible) to a 17" (17" visible) is always quite a disappointment.
3) Money. Prices still are 2x to 3x for the same screen space.
4) Ghosting. Its getting better all the time, but I've yet to see a really good LCD in this area.
5) Viewing angle. I tend to operate multiple machines and switch back and forth. That means I'm often looking at the monitor from a side angle. LCDs are getting better, but they still look like crap from an odd angle.
6) Image quality. Everyone who tends to complain about image quality on a CRT was stuck with a crappy AG monitors. Shadow mask ones just seem to have so much better quality. Get a high quality CRT and you'll not want to go to LCDs.
 
After having the Dell Ultra Sharp LCD on my 8200 I have told myself I am never going back to CRT. Everything looks so crisp with this thing!

There are two different Dell 15" LCD models, perhaps you were using the inferior model?

I also scroll up and down very fast using my mouse's scroll wheel and it does annoy me that the LCD goes blurry but that's a minor annoyance.

I'm sure that in 4-5 years LCD's will dramatically improve (especially for gamers) then I'll have to buy a replacement.
 
I have a 19" flat CRT, I need the resolution flexibility that LCD's just cannot supply.

My next monitor will be a 21/22" CRT.

Actually it's set to happen this year. FFD and similar technologies reduce the response time of the pixels by overdriving them - it should reduce them enough to make motion blur just about unnoticeable.
 
That is a LOT of money for a monitor; and I'm not even in debt. :Q

Any any rate, I still prefer working with flat screen CRT's because they tend to be brighter from all angles, support more resolution settings, and desktop real estate is more of a novelty than a neccesity (for me at least.) I use a 19", a 21", and two 17" CRT's at home.

That's exactly the problem, my eyes are too crappy to run 1600x1200 on something that small.

I normally run 1280x960 on my 19" CRT, & on days when I am unable to wear my contact lenses I drop to 800x600. 1600x1200 is too small to be comfortable for me on the 18" viewable, I hope to be able to run 1600x1200 on a 20" viewable monitor.

But still, on bad days I need the ability to run alternate resolutions without having to worry about a native resolution.

I tend to notice ghosting, and because of their price, I haven't bought one. I'll wait till I can get a decent 19" for under $300.. 😉 My 19" flat CRT works great for now. 🙂
 
Ross man Are you 100% that this Dell is a rebadged Samsung191T? The cheapest I can find one is $799 over at pricewatch. So indead if this is rebadged it would be smokin'. 😀

I currenty have a NEC 1550X and it's awsome but too small to play games although fine for documents. I'm waiting for FDD to mature so by next christmas should be about the right time to buy. The Hitachi 174 is the only screen at the momnet utilizing the technology which cuts down on ghosting.

Edit: and MoonBeam They have that one at circutcity if ya wanna take a spin. personally I thought the screen had a rough sheen and the screen was'nt all that bright compared to the NECs.
