POLL: do you know how to tie a tie ?

i learned to tie a tie at about 12. the weird thing was, my sister taught me, and she is only a few years older than i am.
i dont think i have ever used a mirror to tie one, and i dont know how anybody can be so uncordinated as to need one.

When I started my first full time job, I showed up in a tie... then they told me they went to business casual the week after I showed up for my interview... so I never had to learn for myself. And now I work from home... just never had the need... but shoes on the other hand...

What did you do during the first week? Good lord. My Step Dad showed me how to tie a tie once. That's pretty much all it took. God, if you do it yourself a couple times trying to get the length right you should have it down. :roll:

I guess there aren't that many jobs now that require it but you should still be able to dress yourself by age 20...IMHO.

First week ? It was just the first day and I wore my best tie which was already tied. The interview was a couple weeks prior and they made the switch then (before I started). I obviously would've learned WHEN/IF I HAD TO. But I didn't.

I taught myself a few years ago.. but since I haven't had to wear a tie much since then, I've kinda forgotten. I'm sure I could learn again if I tried.

I only know how to tie a double windsor. I never learned how to tie a bow tie.
